Hi all

i''m looking for 2 half moon sapphires - totallying 1/2 - 3/4 ctw.

Also - this may be a really stupid question - but i have a 1 carat oval sapphire ring - is it possible to have it cut in two?

THANKS for any help, i''m a newbie - really enjoying the site - some really beautiful rings on here.. wow

hi all - here is the ring i am going to have made

i have two options - i already have a 1 carat oval sapphire i was planning on using for the center stone, then i was planning on using two side half moon diamonds (total .50 carats). the setting contains .50 pave diamonds
the other option is to go bigger - 1.5 carat center and .75 total half moon sides.. i''m not sure what to do.. the price difference to go bigger is quite a bit. I''m not sure i will really notice a huge diff going from 1 carat to 1.5 - anyone have any input on this or any finger shots of a 1 ctw vs. 1.5 ctw sapphire.. thanks for any help

It is possible but the monetary loss is great. After all, a 1 ct sapphire is worth a lot more than after it''s cut into two 0.5 ct sapphires. Not only that, it will most likely cut into less than 0.5 ct each, more like 0.25 to 0.3 ct each. I believe it is best to just source 2 moon shaped sapphires from a vendor.

Please don't cut the 1 ct. I don't know what the weight loss will be, but I'll bet you won't get two 0.5 ct stones out of it.

STEPNUTCUT - does the gem shoppe have a website or any contact info - how do you know you are getting quality sapphires.. i want a nice set and i don''t mind spending to get good quality and coloring

you guys are totally right - I won''t cut the 1 carat sapphire.. that is so stupid the more i think of it - thanks for all the input i appreciate it.
I''m sure i can have someone cut me some 1/2 mooner

I found a gem shoppe website.. i think its the same guy Micheal Edgett - i asked him for half mooners totally .75 carats.. and here is his reply

he emailed me the following:

I don''t have anything in my inventory and would need to cut a matched pair from the rough. These would cost about $800 per carat in that size range for a medium deep royal blue color. A pair of synthetic sapphires would cost about $250 for custom cut stones in that size range. Thanks for your inquiry and please let me know if you have any further questions or would like to order a pair !

stepcutnut - do you mind me asking the size and $ you paid for yours.. he mentions the synthetic, I don''t know much about synthetic.. i guess those are the cheaper ones i have seen, i would not want those.. are you happy with the sapphire you got from him - did you order them online and did he send them to you or did you physically go to his store?
thanks
