Hi All,
I don''t know that this is the right place, but as many have custom pieces here, I hope so. I really wanted a Bench Work forum, but couldn''t find one.
Here''s my situation. DH gave me a ring that he had custom made to look similar to Knox'' Motion ring. (He wanted to buy Motion from them, but they didn''t have the exact size stone he wanted - .88 ct, for symbolic reasons - and they won''t sell just the setting.)
Problem: he had it made in white gold. I really dislike white gold - no offense, but diamonds in white metal look all grey and silvery to me, with some sparkle in the middle. I love the contrast of a white diamond in yellow gold. It just pops. So, I finally fessed up to DH, and he was like, "That''s fine, Hon, but do you like the diamond?" Of course I did, how could I not - E, SI1 Ideal cut!
We had the .88 reset in a yellow gold setting, and now I''m thinking of having three sentimental gold bands melted down and restting the .88 into a Motion-type ring, to honor all that DH did, but also get the yg look I want.
Needing the $$ for that project, I''m hoping to sell the wg Motion-type ring. But the top is all opened up and looks bad. (I know, from another jeweler, that my jeweler was justified in doing this to get the diamond out.) As a result, the top will need rebuilt. Before I put the setting on ebay, I want to give the bidders an idea of how much it would cost to build that half-bezel top up again, around their stone.
Any input? Here''s pics -
