Hi everyone, hubby and I are heading to LA for a long weekend next month (3 full days) and we were hoping to try some restaurants that are LA staples or just something that one must try in LA. Does anyone have recommendations? It could be for breakfast/lunch/dinner/snack. We are big foodies and we''d really like to get a full southern CA dining experience. Thanks!

I take my foody clients to dinners at these places and they love...

dinner at Luques on melrose or Melisse in santa monica for dinner- both sort of French with twist.

Cut is THE steak place in beverly Hills. WaterGrill downtown has great seafood.

not so sure about what opened for lunch. Spago is still good... but I do not think consistant. My. Chow open for lunch.

Ooh ooh! Honey, you are opening Pandora's BOX here! I'll just post my favorites and tourist friendly spots so I won't overwhelm you...

Urth Caffe in Bev Hills, Melrose and Santa Monica (3 locations)
-->Great for breakfast and lunch, very organic, vegetarian friendly but does have meat as well

Granville
in downtown Burbank
-->Upscale comfort food. Get the uptown mac&cheese... TRUST me.

Luna Park
on La Brea (east bev. hills, south WeHo)
-->Another upscale comfort food. I believe it's a SanFran import. Great cocktails and the food is FAB--especially the deserts!

Coral Tree Cafe
in Brentwood and Encino (2 locations)
-->Great for breakfast and lunch

California Canteen
in Studio City
-->French fusion. Very rich and yummy!

Yamashiro
in Hollywood
-->Upscale japanese/sushi

Koji's Shabu-Shabu
in Hollywood
-->Hollywood & Highland specifically (by the Chinese and Kodak theatres). Very healthy Japanese food, in a great location!

French Crepe Co.
in Beverly Hills and Hollywood (2 locations)
-->Yummiest crepes I've ever had!

California Roll Factory
in Westwood/Brentwood
-->It's like a '50s diner, sushi style

they have so many specialty rolls. Definitely not 'authentic' sushi, but very good, nonetheless!

Zencu in Downtown LA/Little Tokyo
-->Seriously yummy sushi in the heart of little Tokyo, very reasonable prices, $1 beer at happy hour
