Hey luckystar, here''s the lowdown on getting married at the courthouse.

No appointments needed. You need to go to 3rd fl personal records and get a marriage license first (cash or credit card, ~$40). Texas has a 72 hour waiting period, but for some reason, today, they let us sign a waiver to get married the same day. If they let you do this, too, you take your license up to the 9th floor and see a judge (we just popped our heads in to all the circuit office and someone told us where to go). The judge will marry you and sign your license, and pay them ~40, too (ONLY CASH! FI had to run to the ATM across the street!). Then you take it back down to personal records. If you want an official copy at that time, you pay them $7 and they just xerox it. Then they send the real one in the mail to you later.

Let me know if you have any other questions about it!

Cool! So is there only one place in Houston where you go to get married then???
Where the courthouse is downtown? I went there a lonnnnng time ago when a roomate was fighting for custody of his child.

If I''m not making sense at all, it''s because I don''t know my way downtown at ALL and I''ve been surviving in my little bubble in the northwest side of Houston for the last four years. lol.

The address is 201 Caroline. I think it is *probably* the only place in Houston, but I'm not completely sure. Make sure to pay for 2 hours of parking in case your 72-hour waiting period is waived and you're free to go up to the 9th floor and find someone to marry you-- FI had to go back out to fill the parking meter twice! I think getting it all done at once is DEFINITELY worth not having to trek back downtown again!

Also, bring something to read-- who knows when the judge will actually be available to marry you; we sat around for about an hour waiting for him to return from his "lunch".
