In another thread I wrote:

"Is Camilla's father still alive? I hope so. Years ago he accused Prince Charles of ruining her life and it was reported that when he did Charles cried. I would like to think that he lived to see Charles marry her."

Recently I read that Major Shand, as well as Princes William and Harry, had rooms set aside for him in the home of the Prince of Wales and Mrs. Parker-Bowles. I also found a recent picture of him with his daughter, Mrs. Parker-Bowles, and her two children (his grandchildren).

Here is the photo. The idea of this elderly man''s having to witness his daughter''s being reviled by all of England always broke my heart. It was always she (Mrs. Parker-Bowles), and never Prince Charles, who was blamed for the problems in his marriage with Diana, the Princess of Wales...although it was he, not Camilla, who was married to Diana!

deborah, couldn''t agree with you more: blame the woman he loves because charles married a woman he didn''t love. ah, the irony of it all: had anyone treated henry viii the way the this couple has been treated, it would indeed been off with their heads.

Also I think Wosley had abit to say about Henry marrying his bit on the side as opposed the a French princess like Wosley had been negotiating for.

This article, which is about reaction to the news of the wedding, describes Major Shand''s reaction to hearing about it:

article

"Camilla''s 88-year-old father, Major Bruce Shand, spoke of his joy at the announcement.

Standing outside his Stourpaine House home in Dorset, he said: ''I''m delighted at the news and the whole family is, too.

I''ve spoken to Camilla since the announcement and she says they are both very happy. I haven''t thought much about being Prince Charles'' father-in-law but I think it will be fine, a bit of a weight to carry, though.

I don''t know anything much about the wedding, like who will be attending, but it will be a great day and I would like to be there.''"
