Did any of you ladies, or are any of you planning to, get help from a make up artist with either your engagement or bridal pictures? You know, we''re told to "look like ourselves, only better...". I''m pretty fair with the ol'' make up brushes, but not sure I have what it takes to get me camera-ready. Any feedback on this part of the photography process?
Thank you!

I hired someone to do both my makeup and hair for the wedding day. I usually don''t wear makeup, and am not experienced at it, so this is a big splurge for me...

I just took my engagement photos last Friday, and did a ''trial'' makeup/hair session w/my makeup/hair person the same day, so I could see how it looks.

Hope this helps!

Initially I was going to buy good makeup and just do it myself (b/c I''ve been playing around with makeup since I was about 8 years old and I feel confident doing it myself, plus I didn''t want the added expense of hiring someone). Well, I changed my mind when I found a sales associate at the Clinique counter who freelances. She charges only $35 and she will do as many trials as I need until she gets the look I want (the trials are complimentary). So now I''m kind of excited about it, especially after a lot of the girls on PS gave good feedback on it after I posted my e-pics.

I think the main things I''ve learned about having a professional do it are that it''s going to be much heavier than I am used to wearing, so it feels strange, but in the pictures it doesn''t look strange. It actually photographs well and probably better than it would if I did it myself, since I know I wouldn''t be so heavy-handed.

I am not a fan of professionally done make-up, unless you are dealing with someone who is a real pro. I find in a lot of cases people (including me in the time or two I''ve had it done) tend to look a bit overdone (in some cases, downright weird or cheesey) -- unlike themelves. Unless you REALLY don''t wear make-up and don''t know how to put it on, or unless you have access to someone really hip, I wouldn''t take the chance. But that''s just my opinion.

Good luck!
