I am getting married in 2 months or so, as an expat living in Singapore I don''t have any family here and no great friends. My sis will probably come over to witness, but it is just going to be a sign the registry affair- probably a honeymoon in Asia somewhere to follow.

People that have done this, did you regret not having the white dress, church wedding? It has never been important to me, and I am a no fuss person, but I do want to make sure that it is the right thing to do.

We will likely have a familiy celebration in another year upon return to Australia- maybe on our first anniversary. I decided if I wanted I could still do it as a renewal of vows and have the dress etc, if i decide to then.

Yup. Been there, done that. All I had was the official registry. I''m not big on the wedding dress and ceremony but yes, I do sometimes feel a tinge of regret, however overall, I didn''t feel like I missed anything. What I did do was have a celebration when we went "home" a few months after the registration and put on a pretty gown, got all dolled up, huge dinner affair, etc.

The one things that was important to my family was to have some wedding pictures in a wedding gown. Initially, I thought it was a waste of time and money, but now I am very glad they pushed the issue. Are you planning to have pictures taken in a wedding gown?

Not planning on having a ''wedding gown'' perhaps just a nice dress. I did the white long formal gown at my highschool graduation- that was enough for me, even though it was years ago. I would like some beautiful pics taken of hubby and me for memory''s sake- and something to show the kids one day.

Do what makes you happy! Do you have family that would object to no white dress church wedding? If so, you might have to please them.
I wasn''t too keen on having one, but my parents insisted. My already married friend half-jokingly reminded me, "we all know that a wedding is never for the bride and groom anyway."

So my fiance and I decided if we''re going to do this, then we better end up with great photos. It''s the only thing that lasts. well, other than the marriage.

Thanks, my parents- and his are fine with it. It is actually what my Mum wanted for herself too, but her parents had other ideas for their only little girl in the family of 7. My sis is a tiny bit upset about not being a bridesmaid- so she will be the only family member at the registry celebration- plus she gets a free trip to Asia (Mum and Dad will send her here) and she can be our ring bearer, as someone will need to bring them over from Aust. Absolutely nothing is planned yet though- and this is suppsed to take place in the next couple of months. grrr I JUST got engaged!!! (the rush is so I can finally work here and HTB can get PR).

I sort of worry I won''t bother doing the celebration after the fact- which I want to do, but life gets in the way of these things sometimes. I will just have to promise it to myself. The family celebration will be a smally ceremony on the beach (my uncle is a priest so her can bless us) and a big ass gourmet BBQ with seafood and tonnes of salads all prepared by my chef and butcher brothers and my million relatives! My brother is also a pastry chef- so that takes care of cakes and desserts!! I am one lazy bride as you can see! Mum is a midwife- so she gets to take care of what comes next
