Hello everyone I was just wondering if anyone has been married on a cruise ship or is in the process of planning a cruise ship wedding. My fiance and I are planning a destination wedding and are now considering tieing the knot on a cruise ship most likely princess. I did get some infomation about packages and stuff and they seem very nice but I still want to hear some advice from someone who has experienced an onboard wedding. Thank you so much!

Hi Lindsay,

Congratulations on your engagement!
I have never been on a cruise, so I can''t help you there, but I am also having a destination wedding. I often visit theknot.com
and check out their destination weddings forum. There are a few brides there, I think who are planning their weddings on a cruise ship. They might be able to offer you the help you need!
Good luck,
Sounds like a really fun idea.

I am going to a wedding on a cruise in April. While I can''t give you specific feedback yet, I have heard a few details. They will actually be married on an island and the reception will be back on board. The plus side to that is that people can fly out to the ceremony even if they can''t afford to do the whole cruise. However, regulations stipulate that only registered passengers can attend the reception on board.

The mother of the groom has said that the planning has been an absolute dream since the cruise people handle so many of the details. The reception will only be cocktails/appetizers, however. I think it had something to with the fact that the meals on the cruise are included anyway. I do not know if a reception with a full meal was an option or not.
I can give you more info in April, but I suspect you will have made your mind up by then!

I recently decided on a destination wedding and inquired with a local travel agent about different venues. They coordinate cruise ship weddings as well and can probably give you information on what cruises are the nicest, have best reviews, etc. That would probably be the best place to start.

Ladies thank you for all of your feedback...I absoletly love theknot.com and I have actually done much of my wedding dress searching on that site. I did get in contact with a Princess cruise wedding coordinator and she is going to send me information and price lists. The coordinator also mentioned that planning a cruise ship wedding is virtually stressless and many people have had nothing but good things to say about it. So I was glad to hear that today from her. We were thinking the same thing about just having a cocktail reception like your friend Muchkin because apparently there is nothing but food, food, food on these cruise ships and dinners are including in peoples packages as well. We are planning on just getting married in the chapel at sea by the captain of the boat and the neat thing is princess cruise offers a webcam of your wedding that people who arent in attendance at the wedding can view online while its happening. I thought that was neat. Muchkin I would still like to hear more info on the wedding after it happens in April because I just love hearing about other peoples weddings even when I wasnt engaged. Tybee where are you getting married?? And is your planning very stressful....we are still considering a destination wedding at an all inclusive resort as well. Thanks again ladies....

Although I haven''t ever been to one, FI and I considered it.

to follow up a bit on what Munchkin said, I think you can actually arrange to have the wedding on the ship when it''s docked... I remember reading someone''s bio on theknot where they had the ceremony in the afternoon before the ship set sail, so that family/friends that couldn''t go on the whole cruise could actually attend the ceremony. They had to arrange special passes for the guests that weren''t going on the cruise. I think there was actually a snafu regarding this, like the hair person couldn''t get one or soemthing, and things started a bit late, but it all worked out in the end. Try searching in the DW board.

I took a Princess cruise two years ago and loved it. I think it''s one of the better cruise lines and the food I had was awesome~~!!

I have to laugh. There has been NOTHING stressful about our wedding plannin

.
We will be married on the island of St. John at the Caneel Bay resort. Every day I think I get a little more excited.
My FI is a dear heart. He actually has done almost all the communicating with the wedding planners at the resort, because
I''ve been in graduate school and working full time.
I''m not very traditional though, and have very few wants/needs. I can''t really imagine it not being perfect.

Good luck to you! Let us all know what you decide on.

Well ladies It looks as though I''m back to the drawing board with my wedding plans. Many people on my side of the family, go figure, were against the cruise ship idea and made it known to me that they wouldnt be able to come up with the money. AHHHHHH. Oh well what can ya do. Im feeling very angry about the whole situation however I''m still excited to plan my wedding no matter where it takes place. I will make it special that is for sure. We were considering paying for the guests who couldnt make it but we''d rather not go into debt upto our you know what over this. Thanks for all your input and Im sure Ill be turning to your other posts for LOTS of help
