i''m normally just a lurker here, but i have a question for you all:

i was talking to my boyfriend tonight about wedding bands, and found out that he feels quite strongly about us having matching bands. i''m really not in favor of this idea - i think we should both pick out what we love. i am a small person with small hands, and i think that anything that is delicate enough to look good on me will look silly on him, and vice versa. plus, i''ve really fallen in love with having a pave eternity wedding set (ritani) and he definitely won''t go for a matching pave band! i don''t want to sound bratty, but how my rings look is really important to me, while he doesn''t care about the style as long as they''re the same. i''m reluctant to give up the look i love - i think i''ll always look at the ring and regret it.

what''s a girl to do? i told him that i wasn''t really keen on the idea, but i also feel badly since it seems important to him. anybody else out there dealt with this? any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Why not get both the diamond band and a matching not pave band to his? Wear your non matching one when you don''t wear the diamonds or next to the diamonds if they are the same metal and your diamond one with your ering and not the matching one.

you could do inexpensive matching bands in gold with differing widths. then you could have your pave band too!

My sister has her engagement ring and an eternity band she wears on her left hand. On her right hand, she has a solid band that compliments her husband''s. When they go hiking or whatever and she doesn''t want to wear her diamonds, she''ll take the righ-hand ring and wear it as their wedding band. It works out for the both of them!

royal,

I think it''s so romantic of him to want that but I understand you.

I like the idea of getting one to match his and one to match your e-ring too.

This is exactly what DH and I did, and I''m very happy with that choice. B/C of my job, I don''t wear my fancy set much. I primarily wear my wedding band. He, also, really wanted us to have matching bands, so this was a great compromise. Better than I thought it would be since I don''t wear my set very often.

My fiance suggested this too. My e-ring is the micheal b 3 sided pave and I really wanted the matching wedding ring. In fact, I really can''t imagine anything else. So, I suggested that we get matching Michael B rings pave...I''d even pay to have his custom made.

Of course he said he can''t wear the pave band....I said I can''t wear a big solid wedding ring. We even went to look at them and I tried a few on. Eventually he saw that what looked good on his size 13 fingers looked ridiculous on my size 5 fingers.....So, we decided to compromise and he is getting a platinum band which is the same color as the little bit of metal on my rings. The rings look complimentary without matching. It was a win-win for both of us!

Thanks for the great ideas - getting both seems like such a simple way for us to both be happy...but somehow I never thought of it on my own. It''s nice to hear that other people have done this as well. I''ll bring it up and see what he thinks. Thanks!

another thought... sort of mentioned by islanddreams. matching doesnt have to be identical. you may consider matching the style or elements of detailing.

for example, you can match metal types, finish texture, profile etc.

in your case... (if i am thinking of the correct band) the pave is more or less is diamonds chanel set in a Pt band.

in matching the smooth edge, square section...and material. it goes with a Pt mens band that is also square in section (however wider)

if you think of it this way... you are matching in style. the rings compliment each other....belong together..... but still maintain your individual tastes.
