Nothing is set in stone, but I''m pretty sure that in lieu of Christmas gifts, my boyfriend and I are going to Maui in February (with a small cheesey Hawaiian themed gift to exchange instead...I think I''m going to get him a dancing hula girl for his dash). We want to stay in Ka''anapali, but since online photos through travel websites can sometimes be a little deceiving, I was hoping you all might have accomodation recommendations. We''re leaning towards condos for cost reasons, and it''d be nice staying under $1500 for a full week (obviously, the less the better, but we still want it to be relatively nice). Thanks in advance!

I just got back from seeing our travel agent (again) about booking our trip to Hawaii and we are looking for the exact same thing: condo-style accommodations (cheaper) in the best LOCATION on Ka''anapali beach. She said that The Whaler is probably fits that bill the best--it''s located on the same beach as all the resort, but you don''t get the same amenities. We originally planned to stay at a nice resort, but since we''re going right after new years and the prices are sky high, we''re having to scale back.

We''re deciding between The Whaler and one other Resortquest property that seems a tad bit nicer, but the location isn''t as ideal. Though the Whaler is a tad bit more expensive, I think we''re going to go with it since (for us) location is important.

VRBO.com is a great resource. We used that site quite a bit when booking our last 2 trips to HI.

I meant to post this thread in the Hangout forum, but thank you ladies for your responses so far.

New England Lady, I''m pretty sure Costco Travel has a deal on accomodations (and car rental) for The Whaler on Ka''anapali. You might want to check it out to see how competetive the pricing is.

I like the whalers location...its very central to kaanapali (haven''t been inside). I stayed at the Mahana in September, which is a resortquest condo, and while the location isn''t as good, I LOVED that the room was right on the beach (we opened the patio door to hear waves crashing, and saw only water and molokai...see photo), and we could drive/walk wherever we wanted. And I also second the vrbo option...you can find a deal in there but its a little tougher to find what you want/get connected with them to quote you for the dates you need. Good luck! You''re going to LOVE Maui
