So I''ve found two dresses I really like and I can''t decide (sorry no pictures of me in the dress - they wouldn''t allow it until after placing the order).

Do I go with the more couture Melissa Sweet Carrie or the elegant and classic Romona Keveza? I like the Carrie but will I regret not picking something that will be more elegant and classic 20 years from now?

The Carrie - It''s modern and young looking and very fresh/couture. Love the french silk taffeta. The straps are really wide though so I would either remove them completely or make them a little thinner. My one concern is that I tried it on in a light ivory and didn''t get to see the white (which is on the website). Do you think the white would be too white if I am fair skinned with a little pink undertone (I will go tanning a little before the wedding to have a little color)? Also, is the beading on the bottom too much (it doesn''t have to be sewn on)?

The RK - Very classic elegance, really more of a sophisticated timeless style. The satin was beautiful. It felt good on and I would be really comfortable in it. I would also have the shoulder straps taken in a little as they were also a little too wide on me and I would have buttons put all down the back.

Please help - I have to decide by Friday to get the order in on time.

Like the Carrie, but I like the classic look of the RK a little more (personally). I dunno though, I think the Carrie is a pretty dress. I think in 20 years it''ll look "vintage" rather than "dated." The RK will probably look "classic"

I think either would be a good option.

I LOVE the Carrie! So wonderful! I wouldn''t worry about either one of them looking dated in the future. They both seem pretty classy to me.

Ooooh both dresses are lovely!! But I would pick the Melissa Sweet for 2 reasons:
1. It will NOT look dated in 20 years. It has enough classic elements to maintain its style forever.
2. It has subtle details that make it exciting! The beading, the straps, the hem (oh I love the hem!)...all fun little surprises.

The Romona Keveza is 100% classic. Also another beautiful choice but I''m personally a fan of gowns that have unexpected touches so I would go with the MS.

Also, I forgot to add that the Carrie dress sits a little higher up on the chest than in the picture with the model. I wish I could get away with that look, unfortunately, a little too endowed in that area to have them hanging out

I agree 100%!

I love the MS!

I am all for the second one. I think the first one will look dated and it is not really as classic. For a more unusual dress like that, you have to love it and not have any doubts for it to work.
You mentioned your healthy endowment of chest, which definitely makes a V neck a better choice. Plus, V necks are the most flattering neckline for almost and face shape.

I really love that RK, it is so beautifully classic and I agree that the vneck is so flattering on larger chests. I almost bought the Melissa Sweet Georgina for that very reason...the vneck looked great!!

The one thing I really like about the Melissa Sweet is the hemline, those pleats around the bottom are fantastic. Alvina Valenta has some great dresses with the pleated hemline too!

My vote goes for RK!!

Thanks for all the responses. It looks like we are fairly evenly split though. I would love for more people to chime in and help break the tie.

I am sort of leaning toward the Carrie because I do like the detailing on it and love the fabric. To clarify, I am a large C cup and one of the things I liked about the Carrie dress was that it was flattering there. Some other dresses I tried on overemphasized that area cause there was no runching or anything around the waist to add a little bulk and make it more proportionate to the chest. WIth the runching at the waist on the Carrie and the tie at the waist it was very flattering to my overall figure.

They''re both beautiful -- but I''m voting for the Carrie because it''s unique without being trendy. It evokes the glamorous lines of 40''s movies, right down to the tie around the waist, with a touch of sweetness. I also like the look of the straps on the back BTW. For all I know it would be just as nice without, but I think they add interest to the back.

MS all the way-it''s gorgeous

MS! I''m now completely obsessed with it.

i vote for the Carrie! I love the little touches - the hem, the way the straps meet in the middle in the back - it is gorgeous! And you said it flatters your figure. I love dresses with a little something unique. And I don''t think this will look dated in the future or at least not any more dated than anything else. I don''t think we can avoid this - after all, look at the dresses our parents wore - they ALL look dated now!

Can you define "too endowed"? I''m fairly endowed as well (34C/D) but love this sooo much....

Both are really nice, but I am leaning toward the MS (but I was a MS bride so I might be bias to the unique look of MS gowns)

In terms of looking ''dated'' :
It does not matter what you choose--elements of your wedding will be dated in a few short years anyway (colors, flowers, hair etc.) so go with the dress you love now. Neither have crazy design elements that will look shocking in 10 years (e.g. the massive poofy sleeves of the 80''s) so I don''t think that should be a determining factor.

I''m also leaning towards MS because I too am a MS bride (my dress is the Lia)...I say if you love it go for it!!!!!

Thanks everyone for your replies. I really appreciate it.

I decided to go to one last place to look at dresses as I couldn''t make up my mind between the two (and was feeling the pressure as I would have had to order the MS by 2pm to get it in without incurring rush charges). I think I may have found THE ONE. It was the last dress I tried on yesterday and I love it. It combines the ruffles of the Melissa with the elegance of the RK. They put a ivory organza 2-3inch belt on it as well and it looked gorgeous. It''s an Oscare de la Renta (I had no idea he made bridal gowns). What do ya''ll think?

WOW! The third dress is a knockout! I was originally going to say go for the MS, but I think both are absolutely beautiful.

I''m not loving the RK for some reason, probably because that wide v-neck over-accentuates the shoulder width and I prefer to see dresses that focus on feminine features.

The Oscar is quite stunning, I can''t wait to see pictures!

I love the MS! It''s romantic drama with a modern twist!

Thanks justageek and Haven.

I think the reason I am leaning towards the Oscar is that I really liked the MS but in the back of my mind I always worried it was a little to busy and not as simple as I wanted. The Oscar has the pleating/ruffles that I love yet it still simple and the fabric is to die for.

Also, I don''t know if this has any impact on your choices, but I am wearing a second dress later in the evening for dancing. It is the Reem Acra "Beautiful" and its so ornate that I think the classic Oscar may be better for the wedding ceremony and pictures.

Here is the Reem Acra for reference: http://www.brides.com/fashion/dresses/gallery/wedding_dresses/runway/designer/reemacra/detail/131874?offset=6&page=1

Wow the oscar de la renta gown is stunning!! I think the oscar has the most drama - but not in a bad way! The RK is more quiet classic, while oscar is classic with a statement! The Carrie seems to be more playful. Up to you what kind of feeling you''re looking for - they''re all beautiful gowns :) But I do love the oscar!

Your second gown is also beautiful - love the elegant flowiness. it looks comfortable too.

Wow how cool that you get to wear two gorgeous gowns!!! That Reem Acra is super crazy amazingly ridiculously wonderfully holy-crap knockout beautiful. You are my idol.

Thanks chinglish and CrownJewel!! You guys are so kind. CrownJewel I am so happy you love it as much as I did when I first saw it!!

The moment I saw the Reem I knew I had to wear it on my wedding day. It's so beautiful and bejewelled that I feel earthereal in it - the gown's name "Beautiful" is really appropriate. It is so comfortable and fun. However, I didn't think the Reem was right for the church and for having a daytime ceremony so I have been looking for another dress. I think this Oscar is great and I am probably going to go with that.

One problem with the Oscar though - when they took my measurements the 1 meausurement out of the 4 is so off from the rest that they want to order my gown 4 sizes above (if the one measurement was inline I would be a size 14 in this gown but they want to order me an 18!). I find this ludicrous, as I wear a street size 10 and the Reem I am getting is a 12. I know Oscar runs small, but come on. They said if I want to order the 14 but customize that one measurement then it would be a 20% upcharge. I don't know what to do, do I get this huge gown and have major alterations on every other part that's going to be too big for the 18, or do I customize it, or do I just make them order the 14 as I am trying to lose a little weight, and have them try to alter the dress the stupid extra 1.5 inches it needs to be in that area.

My first choice was the MS until I saw the beautiful "Beautiful" dress you'll be wearing later. Both of those dresses seem youthful, playful and fun with similar bodice styles (at least in the silhouette of it, not the details... they just seemed too similar in some aspects)... so for the ceremony, I would go with something more classic (though still youthful) and different from the second dress you will be wearing... so that now leaves my first choice as the Oscar.

I adore that oscar dress!!

Just so you know, the Oscar dress is just like this Romona design and the Romona might be less expensive and have better sizing for you...

I tried on this Romona because it is essentially the one-piece version of my dress and it is stunning! It looks so much better in person than on the runway model. I highly recommend that you take a look before you order the Oscar.

ooooh! I tried on that Oscar de la Renta and I loved it! The material is absolutely wonderful. My good friend recently wore a similar dress - it was a Junko Yoshioka and it was stunning and had the most wonderful back!

And I love your Reem Acra too! You are one lucky lucky girl.

FacetFire - That's so funny, I just looked at that Romona last night. Since you tried it on, were the ruffles able to be smoothed out a little, a bit closer to the body like the Oscar? Do you think it's worth ordering it into a store to try it on as I only have about a week to order without incurring late charges? Also, do you remember how much the Romona was?

sunnygirl - that Junko is gorgeous. I haven't seen any dresses by them. I wish I hadn't waited until the last minute to look for dresses. I had much more fun trying them on than I thought and now I wish I could try these as well.

I really am blessed to be marrying my fiance and he has been great and even been supportive of me getting two dresses for our wedding. I definitely am one lucky girl!!

The ruffles do lay closer to the body than that picture shows. In fact, I loved the size and shape of the ruffle so much that I ordered that exact ruffle to replace the ruffle they used on my dress. I prefer the Romona to the Oscar actually, in part because the back is a bit lower on the Romona, which looks so striking and graceful from behind. I think that the Oscar looks a little too stiff for my taste from behind because the back is higher. I would seriously consider having someone bring it in if at all possible. Does no one near you carry it? I also was very tempted because I thought it was a steal for a Romona dress. I want to say it cost somewhere in the ballpark of $3,000. The salon near me that carries it also put an extra layer of crinoline into the bottom of the skirt, which is something to consider, because it really made the overall shape lovely. Also, it can be ordered in either of two fabrics...a silk shantung, which was very light and a bit textured, or a silk faille, which I liked because it was thicker and felt more luxurious to me. I was torn between this dress and mine for a while, until I decided I really wanted to go with the two-piece.
