Got my first custom made ring in 14k today.
Wow! That's a piece of sculpture!

Could you say something about the design process. Did you just ask for 'a lion's head'? Or did you have a sketch or a model? Or had the designer done something similar before? Was there a lot of back-and-forth to get it right?

Happy to share. So I’ve always been fascinated with lions since my childhood and wanted to get a unique custom ring of a lion head. I shopped around at many different local jewellery stores as lion head rings are not a new thing, but I’m a picky guy and many of the design I saw didn’t do well at representing the look of a real lion to me. That’s when I reached out to a jeweller in Toronto and sent him the picture of a model wearing a model I liked, which I found through Google images. I met in person with the jeweller and paid half the price and he emailed the 3D picture included here 3 days later and told me he could make the ring I requested or the 3D version he sent me that had a lot more detail. I was very skeptical because I had never spent this much on any piece of jewellery. However he had over 300 5 star reviews on Google so I gave him the go ahead, but was still truly nervous the whole time. He exceeded my expectations by a lot. There was no back and forth once I gave him the go ahead on the design he sent me.

Thank you for telling the story. I've always liked the idea of a sculptural ring, but thought that commissioning one was a bit high-risk. But for you, everything went smoothly and the result is magnificent. I guess you did your research well in choosing the jeweller...

Thanks DejaWiz! I’m actually not a fan of bigger rings that will draw too much attention but there was no other way for design to be smaller and still gave this much detail.

Stunning! I'd wear that in a heartbeat!

My new cheap-o brushed satin black 8mm tungsten band that arrived last Friday from an eBay seller for $8 shipped after sales tax...yes, you read that correctly!

We'll see how long the finish holds up.

One year to the day...it's holding up great!
I can count on one hand the number of times that I have taken it off. It stays on for everything: work at the power plant, yard work, swimming, working/playing with the dogs, showers/baths, housework, etc. So it's a little faded, but still surpassed my expectations, especially for the peanuts that I paid for it.

Come on y'all, we need to see more bling on this thread!

Guys, post some new pics of your lovelies, even if its pieces you've posted before, how are you wearing your bling today?

Ladies, you can post too, just sneak some pics of your partner's/son's/father's bling!

Come on y'all, we need to see more bling on this thread!

In my lurking days, I often used to scan this thread for inspiration - it's surely the best collection of concepts for men's rings on the net. Now I've signed up, it may be useful to show a range of designs in one place. I've shown most of these before, on this or other threads. Feel free to take them as inspiration. (Or even as warnings of what to avoid...).

Dead-set traditional. Your grandfather may have worn a ring like this. Nothing wrong with that - traditions become traditions for a reason:

You can decorate it bit. This one frames the cat's eye as an eye:891827

Bezel is a staple, and very suitable for men's rings. But they can be more elaborate: 853820893072

Half-bezels can be stylish. They help to avoid the 'wall of metal' that can be a problem with deep stones:

Variations on Belcher can help with deep stones - they give more protection than a half-bezel. They can also help to 'frame' smaller stones:

Trilliants require some creativity:

Split shoulders can give a nice curve:

More to come.
