This poll was inspired by a long discussion on a popular jewellers forum.

I am asking about an ordinary platinum ring, not an extra wide, super thick band.

I'm curious to hear, people actually get their scraps back? I commented on this to my df when we had my custom ring sized down a half size...he thought it would be too miserly to ask. I didn't see the harm, since presumably he paid for the amount of platinum used to start? We didn't ask.

nope I don''t expect any scrap back, as the amount (minimal) and labor -I figure, its kinda like a tip?,,,

This never ever occurred to me.

If it were a lot I might ask for a credit for it to be applied to my bill. Last time I had a ring worked on the jeweller listed on his receipt the price of the work and materials, minus the credit for the 18K white gold he kept from the work he did, and I paid the total. I didn''t ask for a credit or a breakdown on the receipt, it was just provided.

But generally, no, I don''t expect to get the scraps back.
