69812F88-CBAD-4433-8F71-5B37F17CC6E9.jpeg I spotted this item on eBay.
It’s in the US, they offer 30 day return, the seller has over 1,200 feedback 100% and it’s stunning and the RIGHT VIVID RED!.
Ok, it’s a Spinel
But it’s got a GIA cert, it’s natural unheated and it’s 4.04 carats.
Plus It’s got 1.45 carats of diamonds (top colour vs2) and the ring is in 18kt gold and weighs 11 grams.
This is a quality ring.
Appraisal value (yeah yeah) is $45,000 - nice.
Seller is “Avisdiamonds” couldn’t find the darn item number on my iPad eBay app (grrr)
Price $21,500 or offer.
I’d start with a $20,000 offer.
And if you don’t like the setting - whoo hoo, I’m looking for a setting just like this so maybe we can work something out !

Not half bad - and if the stone is bright vivid red, eye clean and not dark/brownish/doesn't have the blackish dimness common to spinels, then the price range sounds pretty standard.

It is stunning!

@Bron357 Hi! Thank you posting this... I almost missed it as it was down the list. I can't find the seller on ebay. I typed "avisdiamonds" but I can't find anything. Do you have a link?

I've never bought anything expensive on ebay, but I would like to check this one out. Thanks for posting!

Sorry, found it.
Item 291005646723
They have a lot of very very nice things (top item is a $500,000 emerald - it’s a jaw dropper), over 10 years on eBay, 100% positive feedback so as trustworthy as they get.
I’ve spent over $15,000 on an eBay item and I had it shipped to me here in Australia no worries. The import tax was a killer for me though.
Check out some of their other items - OMG to die 4.

He responded to my questions on exact color (pigeon blood, true red, pinkish red) and sent me a youtube of the ring:

It's more pink than I like. Bummer. Thank you though!

It's pretty but I don't see "vivid" in the video so I am glad for that price that you took a pass. Good luck in your search. Also very nice of @Bron357 in helping you with the search. :)

It got a lot darker on the finger without the back-lighting seeping in. A nice one, but you shouldn't settle at that price.

I’ll keep looking, it’s out there, somewhere !

It’s a nice ring though, great quality.

@Bron357 You are brave to purchase online and on ebay too! But it seems you know what to look for and are an expert. I'm no where near an expert and haven't ventured to purchase online yet.

It’s a nice ring though, great quality.

I've looked at this ring as well. I thought it looks a little generic, probably assembled cast. I do love the spinel though.

Hi! May I ask how you can tell if it's an assembled cast mounting or custom made (whatever the word). I would love to know what are key things to look for to determine if the mounting is quality or not. Thank you.

Hi! It's never possible to tell cast vs. hand fabricated for sure just by looking at pictures. However, in this ring I see some tell tales for rather commercial casting work. First, this kind of halo setting is one of the most popular styles sold by providers of "findings" for the jewelry trade (google findings and then "cluster setting"). Those kind of cluster settings are often soldered to premade ring shanks. Second, look at the surface of the visible parts of the center stone setting. Slightly uneven and rough metal is typical for cast pieces that have not been cleaned very carefully after casting. In a hand fabricated setting those parts would look perfectly smooth. If you ask me, there's nothing wrong with casting jewelry parts. I only wouldn't spend 20K on anything but a finely hand fabricated piece.

WOW! I didn't know spinels get such prices, nor that they get tested for heat.

Hot damn...never knew spinels got that type of pricing!
