My boyfriend and I are about to make a big purchase for an e-ring. For many reasons, I want a Sapphire for the center stone and I have narrowed it to an Unheated Montana Sapphire. I prefer a lighter color sapphire (not rich blue). I am also OK if it has some grey/silver to it. We went to a gem store recently to just “look” and I fell in love with one stone in particular- I didn’t have any runner ups that got be as excited as this one. It is incredibly sparkly and shifts color in different lights. It is a 2.42 carat cushion cut that measures 7.8x7x5.5mm and VVS clarity. Under the loop there is very minor ‘silk’ that can hardly be seen- and definitely not by the naked eye. Before making such a big purchase we would love some extra input on The quality etc. The stone is retailing for $4600-which is slightly above our price range. We both love it so much, but we want to make sure we are making a smart purchase etc. thanks in advance for any help or feedback!

What would you like to hear?
I feels overpriced and I think you could find something very similar for less.
However the heart wants what it wants.

Welcome to the forum!

The experts (not me! lol) on coloured stones usually reside in the Coloured Gemstones section of the forum - if you click the 'Report Post' button at the bottom of your post, a kindly admin or moderator should be able to move the thread for you :)

Thank you! But I don’t see the report button

I think that stone is overpriced for what it is.

I like gem fix and have worked with them before. Good Luck!

very beautiful blue colored stone.

In my opinion, that seems like a very fair retail price for an unheated Montana sapphire of that size, clarity, and color. It's quite rare to find that combination in a Montana sapphire. It also looks to be cut well.
While, I'm sure the other posters meant well, none of the comparison stones are unheated Montana's, so I don't think they're comparing apples to apples. The most important thing is that YOU love it, not that it meets someone else's standards of the ideal sapphire color.
Perhaps the store can work with you on the pricing if you express how much you love it, but explain that it's a bit over your budget. Larger stones can take longer to sell, so it's worth a shot! Best of luck to you and your boyfriend!

I think it's overpriced for what it is. I agree with others that I think you can find a nicer stone for less $. I like the suggestions above!

I think the stone you found is really beautiful but while it may be slightly overpriced there is some priceless sentimental value to the experience you had picking it out together with your fiancé. You might be able to find a less expensive stone but might always have the first stone in the back of your mind.

That is a lovely Montana sapphire. I’m not an expert, but I have heard there is a bit of a price premium for larger sapphires from that location, since Montana’s tend to be smaller. Unheated tends to cost more too, but helps retain the lovely slight silk and color shifts in different lights. Your is big and well colored and really beautiful. The amount of different shades it picked up in the changing light is really remarkable. If you’ve fallen in love with it, I understand. I think it’s worth it!

Thank you so much!
