Didn´t buy the russian alexandrite...

But I found a ( now ) rare alexandrite from Novello claims (Zimbabwe)..
Only 0,13 ct but the strongest CC possible - larger stones from this source are almost black and highly included.
The vendor was an old german gemtrader with a lot of old (old prices too :D ) material.

It is the round stone...

Another is a 0,32 ct pear from India ( Samunda?) - fantastic color change too ( Yes - LD - you are right!!!)

Marlow: this is all you got? You tell us all about this St. Marie aux Mines gem show. You build it up for us, even getting some of us so excited that we thought the show was weeks ago, you travel there, and this is all you have to show us?!! This and some emeralds?!! We want the full report, kiddo! What did you see? What was new? What was the atmosphere like? Did if feel busy or was it slow? Pictures please!!

maybe I'm weird (ok I am...lol) I've never gotten the alexandrite bug. I don't find them to be pretty. but then again most color change stones don't thrill me much. color shift is another story....

I love alexandrite. Congratulations on your purchase! Do you mind me asking what a quality alexandrite is worth per carat?

Did anyone see the alexandrite ring listed on the Romanov site? Will you be setting yours Marlow?

No, I will not set them - both are quite dark and small.

Difficult to say - we saw an pretty indian 1,5 ct oval for 6000 EUR - exc. clarity and daylight color but a weaker change ( o.k. was outside in a tent with bright sunlight around - maybe my incandescent lamp was not strong enough).

Arc,
It's not just you. I don't particularly like alexandrite and those that I do like are typically $$$$$.

Ooooh...lovely! I don't see why you wouldn't want to set them if you can think of a dream setting. I just accidentally won an "alexandrite" band in a live auction with an absentee bid. I say it like that b/c I had no idea I would win it and was just dreaming of having an alexandrite anything. The total carat weight is 0.32 with six oval stones...so around 5.3 points each. It was pretty enough for me to keep, so I did. :) I may end up changing out the setting later on, but at least I can wear it and enjoy it for now. Will post picks if you are interested. Just don't want you to feel discouraged about setting your stones. :wavey:

This ring is neat! That alex looks like it might have a super strong color change too. Think I'll have to go visit it on their site - thanks for posting!

Back to say that I knew the ring was reminding me of something and I just realized what: a peacock!
