So, I contacted several sites that you guys recommended for precision cut asschers. I promptly got a response and this picture from Gene at precisiongem. This stone is not available but he can cut another one like that from the same crystal. It''s a bit out of my price range but I''m really tempted. It looks so pretty! Any thoughts on the color? Would this be close to the actual color or should I expect it to be signficantly darker? (I definitely don''t want a dark stone). Would it show the cut well? Is there anything else I should be aware of? I''m a little nervous to go with a custom cut stone as I imagine it wouldn''t be refundable, would it?

Oops, here''s the picture!

I think it looks lovely!

I''ve never ordered a custom gem from Gene, but I imagine that it would still be refundable if you saw it and decided it wasn''t what you wanted. He was just list it on his site. I''m sure he would have no problem finding a buyer!

Gene is great to work with, I am unsure of his custom cut return policy-but he does really lovely work :)

In my opinion, Gene''s photos are among the most accurate, and I highly doubt that the resulting stone would be overly dark. When I have commissioned a stone from him, he has sent me a photo of the finished stone first, and we proceed from there. In fact, sometimes he''ll post a finished stone on his blog with the comment that it''s already spoken for, but if the customer doesn''t want it, then it would be for sale. I also imagine you would also have the same return privileges as listed on his site.

I just want to say that looks like a great colour and cut.

can''t go wrong

yup yup yup

I ordered a custom asscher from Gene and his pictures are extremely accurate. I was also under no pressure to purchase the stone after it had been cut. I''m sure it will be gorgeous!

I have also ordered a custom cut from Gene and his photos are very accurate as well. He was very nice to work with so I highly recommend it.

I am about 99% sure that is my asscher. Gene''s photo is pretty accurate. This aqua is very saturated and not pale or washed out like some aqua''s are. It is not darker than the photo and yes it shows the cut well. I did post some photos on here but they did not turn out well.

That stone is not dark by any stretch of the imagination. It''s actually light in tone, as 99% of aquas, but I can actually see blue in it. From what I''ve heard, Gene cuts superb asschers, so if you want an asscher, he''s the man. Since it''s light in tone, and he cuts them so well, you''ll see your windmills and steps cuts quite well. I think that''s what you''re after if I''m not mistaken. Gene is really good about refunds, so I wouldn''t worry at all.

Gene is wonderful! I think that aqua is beautiful as well. I have a stone from Gene and its far more beautiful in person than his photograph.

From my prior experience with Gene, even though the stone is custom cut, it is fully returnable and refundable within the window period. His gemstone pictures are also one of the more accurate ones on PS. I highly doubt that the stone will be dark at all; in fact, it is still light but it is clearly blue and a pleasant one too. The cutting looks superb as always.

It looks amazing. What size mm are you looking for? I want one about 6mm - maybe I should write him too.

Thanks so much, your posts are very reassuring!

Marcyc, Gene said the finished stones come out around 8mm (from this particular crystal).

I will have to write him and see if I can get a smaller mm. My B-Day is coming up.

I hope you get it and post LOTS of photos. It looks like a great color, not to dark. Keep us updated on what you decide!
