more pics of my little trollbaby

I know some people really don''t like my blue spinel, but I really really do love it. This weekend while I was out taking additional pictures of my tourmaline ring, I snapped a few of my blue spinel.

Its really very moody and will take pictures only when it really wants to. I dunno, I''m starting to think ring again. lol And maybe also because its the most darn unusual thing I have, not to mention the darkest, its like the underdog of my gembox...lol

Out in the shade, he decided it was ok to snap a pic. Its an extreme closeup but its so purdy!

It does sparkle quite a bit for a dark stone and being a decently cut spinel helps with that. But sooooo MOODY! It will sparkle and shine when you don''t expect it to, and when you expect it to, its 50/50.

I doubt I would ever get another stone this dark because its so chancy, but I now have an appreciation for them because they really are a horse of another feather.

It is the perfect tone against your skin - definitely a ring so youc an look at its moods all the time Maybe if you set it in a really airy setting up a little high you can encourage more light from underneath too.

I was almost too scared to open the thread but I figured it can’t be THAT bad since Arcadian started it.

Some gemstones are very individualistic so you can now officially add yourself as a moody blue spinel owner.

lol thanks for all the kinds words guys. I''ve always wondered why spinels (especially blues and purples) can be as moody as they are. Ive got a smaller and much lighter blue coming in the next few weeks as a comparison.

What I realized from yesterday; sun from the top down will make the poor thing turn nearly black though it will still sparkle. man....

I''m researching settings right now, though I may go the custom route for this one. I also did think that this stone could make a really cool pearl pendant.

I find that the lighter and better saturated blue spinels do not act moody at all. They do shift as all blue spinels do but give off the most amazing fireworks, are fun and easy to photograph, and generally look great all the time.

Arc, I just had to jump in and say I think the stone is absolutely beautiful on your hand. It perfectly compliments your skin tone. I think it is a beautiful little dude and I personally like stones with personality and modiness. They stand out from the average guy.

I''ve got a lighter blue that will be here in a few weeks, and what I''ve seen of the vendor pics, I don''t doubt what you''re saying at all. I was more talking about the darker hued blues and purples. While I think they''re lovely (sometimes) they can be quite a pain in the neck from a photography standpoint.
