Like many others, I was inspired by threepwood''s oval morganite ring
30.gif
. I have a couple of morganites, but none in a smallish oval like threep''s. The ones I have are a blush/ballet slipper pink--a shade I much prefer to some of the peachier stones I''ve seen. My pinks were purchased from a vendor no longer in business.

Thinking I had found my 6c oval advertised and pictured as pale pink, I was really disappointed to receive the peachier coloured stone. Does anyone know of a reputable morganite vendor who might have what I''m looking for?

Someone? Anyone? Help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I haven''t seen much morganite for sale online at all lately and what I have seen seems to be the peachy pink rather than the true pink. http://mineralminers.com/html/morgems.stm has a few pieces but they seem to be the more peach color.

Thanks, Kismet, for the link. The pictures look pink on my monitor, but most are sold.

I guess I''ll just keep trying...

Thanks, Dogmom. I have e-mailed them about the 10.83 morganite oval and will let you know what they say.

You could always try contacting one of the vendors people seem to like around here and see what they have, they might be able to source some for you if they don''t already have it. Ones that seem to be popular are:

Dan at http://www.customgemstones.com/ or Richard Homer at http://www.concavegems.com/main.html...

Thanks, pinkdreamer, I have e-mailed both vendors

While looking around to see what was available, I came across a "quantum cut" oval on Jewelry TV. It looks a little like Richard Homer''s concave faceting, but I''ve never heard the term "quantum" to describe a cut. Any info anyone??

You''re right - it does look like the concave cut. Keep us posted on what you find out on the other recommendations.

That is a stunning stone in your avatar!

So far, I''ve heard from Custom Gemstones saying that they have no worthwhile morganite rough from which to cut. I admire their honesty.

The stone in my avatar is the Steinmetz diamond (30c+)being displayed in a museum (Smithsonian?) Gotta love that colour!!

Do you think the "quantum cut" morganite stone from Jewelry Television is worth taking a closer look at?

Oh, I thought that stone was yours!

For a really pale pink, how about looking at danburites? I had morganites in mind, but I saw a daunburite that changed my mind.

I thought that was your stone, too!

I''m working with Daniel at custom gemstones for a stone and he is great. He is very honest and I trust him completely. I have to say I''m not crazy about the stone from JTV. I just posted a link to a great list of on-line sites that may be of help in your search.

Good luck!

Hrm, can''t say that I care for the JTV stone at all really.

Thanks Harriet, Kismet and Dogmom.

Harriet, is that danburite or daunburite?

Kismet and Dogmom, is it the cut or the colour of the JT morganite you don''t care for (or both)?

Thanks

Hi Isabel,
It''s "danburite". I committed a typo. Oops.

Personally, I think the concave faceting looks better with deeper-colored stones. I''m not real crazy about the color of the JTV stone, either.

They have a good return policy. It might be worth taking a chance. Good luck!

I''ve been trying to contact AJS via email on 2 separate occasions but have had no success. No replies. I even sent follow up emails but NOTHING. Well, I went somewhere else to buy my gemstones. I wondered what is up with AJS?

That''s good to know about AJS...

Those three ovals are pretty!! They are so colorful for morganites!

Update on the morganite search...

ajs responded very quickly saying that the 10+ oval would be a good choice, (but probably a bit on the large side for a ring???)

Richard Homer replied quickly as well last Friday saying that he had no morganite rough, but was going to attend a gem show this past weekend and would see what was available. I haven''t heard anything from him since then so assume there was no availability.

Then, thanks to Dogmom

, I contacted ForeverGemstones and spoke to Martin who has a wealth of info regarding coloured gems. Long story short, I sent for the 3.70 oval which arrived today. It''s a beautiful pale pink (no peach tones!) with lots of sparkle. There''s only one drawback, it looks smallish--9 x 11 x 6mm so requires a halo type setting, I think.

In my (admittedly large) collection of ring photos
20.gif
, I came across Threep''s ring (for a 6c morganite--gorgeous!) and another from the Stardust collection (very similar to Threep''s). I had e-mailed Stardust when I was anticipating the arrival of my 6c (too peachy), had no response, then sent another to which they replied that I needed to refresh their memory regarding my post (definitely not a good sign)

Any other suggestions for a vendor who would set a haloed oval with curved split shanks would be much appreciated. Pale pink diamonds for the halo??? So sorry to be copying your ideas, Threep, but that''s one gorgeous ring you had made ... in Singapore?

Hi Isabel

I'm so glad you found a morganite you like

I will keep ForeverGemstones in mind for a future project. A lot of PSers like Adwar.com for semi-mounts. You would have to order through a local jeweler as they sell only to the trade. I think a halo would look really nice with that stone. Please post some pics!
