My Burma Myanmar gemstones :)

This reminds me...I saw a strand of 15mm water jadeite beads in a vintage necklace. The clasp is gold with many different gems set in it. Nice but not super rare, like a amethyst, cabochon tourmaline etc. The color is like a very light, fine grained, water blue-oil green. They are beautiful but seller wants 2600. Due to the slight oil green quality, I wonder if this price seems appropriate. I'm confused about oil green because it's often considered the least desirable color, and often least expensive. Yet, I see some very expensive examples in translucent bangles. Certainly if the beads were a bluer color, they would be worth a lot more...I just am not sure what a fair price range would be. Do you know about this?

15mm is actually rather big by today's standards where most beads I see are in the 8-10mm range, occasionally 12mm. Like you mentioned, it's probably vintage and if it's changed a few hands, the price would have risen by much each time. Would you know if it's mountain jadeite or water jadeite? If the latter then it is probably worth the premium.

A photo of it would help!

Isn't it amazing to see a nest of 'sister' bangles and to be able to choose one! the only experience I had was choosing a yellow/white bangle from 2 sisters. It was extraordinarily satisfying. Your bangle really shows why jadeite is so magical. There is so much poetry in jadeite, and so much complexity. Your bangle has an entirely rich mood/personality in it.

I think you would LOVE seeing the rough jadeite boulders here go from their raw form to finished carvings, beads and such! Sometimes they don't turn out as deep a shade as the boulder, audio you never really know what you will get from the rough until it's done.

Because I have such inflexible bones, I need a 68mm diameter for the bangle. So my jeweller's friend has this new discovery from a new mine that has some lavender rough. Mountain jadeite. They will try to make a bangle in my size to see if the colour retains how it is in the rough. They did tell me that sometimes lavender jadeite turns white after some time. Untreated type A jadeite, but it depends on the mine. Probably owing to the mineral mix that's too chemistry/technical for me.

Thanks for the reply. I believe they are water jadeite. I'll get a picture this week. Really love the beads but want to bargain down to a fair price...

Wow, that rough is gorgeous!!! I have not heard of fading color in jadeite, but definitely have heard of it happening in some native, Californian blue green nephrite. It has to do with the specific mineral impurities and a chemical change upon exposure to oxygen. Though, I must say, with that vivid lavender mountain jade, I might well want to take my chances! I wonder if wax coating would help prevent this? I love the name 'mountain' jade. This is super exciting!

I will show the photos to my jewellers to get their opinion if that helps :)
I have a small collection of small pendant carvings and a light lavender one was from a much deeper coloured rough that I saw from start to end. Could be chemical reaction with oxygen indeed and no, afraid the wax treatment doesn't help seal in the colour. You can actually tell older jadeite from younger jadeite. The older ones take on a very shiny finish after the wax. The younger ones are duller.

Can wait to check out stuffs with you in Yangon!

My new stuff set in Hong Kong is making their way here this coming week.

Bad teaser photo by the settings chaps! Can't wait :)

Wow! That IS avteaser shot! Do I see some grey stars in there? As well as a jadeite cab? All are lovely, but I love those grey cabs!

The grey pieces are jadeite :D. I've uploaded a photo of them unset, below.

There are small spess garnets, peach spinel, green jadeite, blue sapphires and a pink tourmaline (this is from Barry ACS Gems). The rest are from Myanmar.

Oh and I picked up a pair of untreated Mogok aquamarines today. Very small, under a carat each. But they are old stock so still fairly light blue. The mines now only yield near colourless ones over here.

Gorgeous! Love love love them!

Today's haul.

3 type A jadeite 10mm bead necklaces from the same stone. I've been after one for some time to wear as a double strand or as a long necklace (which requires just 2 strands).

Also had my dad's jadeite 13mm bead bracelet restrung. His favorite, owing to the unusual texture. The colour is very masculine to my eyes!

Collected the set CS today. All 18k gold and diamonds :)

The 2.363 ct blue sapphire is in a convertible pendant/ring.

I love my blue sapphire earrings. They turned out bluer after setting. Glad I listened to my jewellers to get the sapphires though I worried they'd be too dark to begin with.

I love all of your new beauties Bluegemz but those blue sapphire earrings are so gorgeous!:love::love:

I love the setting of the ring with convertible pendant! I saw one in Andorra but it was a tanzanite instead of sapphire and the price was high for me as I can get tanzanite at way lower prices.

Congratulations on all the new things! Wow, you really got so many things at once! Ok, I really love the grey studs and of course, the ring that converts is awesome. Dark blue sapphire earrings are lovely, as is the jade ring. And, love the jade beads. What are you going to wear first?

Your sapphire earrings are so glamorous! Your spess earrings look like molten lava. Very nice. I really love your gray jade. It is such a calming color. Your aquamarines are a great color. I enjoy checking out your thread Seaglow!

Thank you, dear ladies. You are all too kind.

Wore the jade, tourmaline and spinel rings first :)

Added a pink sapphire to my happy box.
Was shown a pair of untreated Mong Hsu rubies total 1.8x ct. They still have their black rutiles within but are bright and clean, that notwithstanding.

Gawked at these star sapphires too, which I posted I the other thread.

Not mine but these are fine Burmese untreated sapphires indeed. Yummers! At least I got to touch them and see them IRL :D

First up is a 3.92ct Mogok sapphire that looks like a tanzanite. Slight colour shift. But such a gorgeous blue. Was just US$4,500 3 years ago. Can't get anywhere near this now! Has a small feather at the surface but the colour is so fine and saturated, barely noticeable unless up close.

Second is a pair of Mogok sapphires, lighter blue than the 3.92 ct stunner but more blue without colour shift.

Committed to the small natural unheated ruby pair and here's the local lab report :)

Gorgeous! What will you do with them? I can picture them as side stones in a ring, or paired with pink spinel or diamond drops for earrings.

Yup it's the same pair, Seaglow.

I'll just leave them unset first till inspiration strikes, Bluegemz. Think I need a breather from all that setting that adds up. I'd rather focus on collecting more stones first.

I was good and just sent 2 jade items and a pearl for the latest round of settings to be brought back by the HK chaps to set.

Just putting them here, a friend's friend has these Mogok untreated rubies and sapphires for sale. The prices are in usd$. Out of my budget.

I understand completely. It's good to take a breather and set each thing with patience and proper inspiration. It's good that you're not pushing yourself. It just doesn't feel good to do that. Looking forward to seeing your jades and the pearl!

Bought 2 new pink spinels. The large one is about 3.1 ct, inclusions at the side. 1.9 ct silky pink spinel and the small one as a gift.
