Well you really made the right impulse purchase here! This type of transitional cut is like the holy grail. I remember seeing so many threads over the years of people hunting for these cuts going way way back! But they are so rare! Just a very small window of time when these were cut. Really a treasure and I’m so happy you found it.
My diamond is also technically a transitional as well but it shows big fat arrows. You can see your “arrows” too, but the difference between our stones is yours is less precisely cut whereas mine is more symmetric like an MRB… but that chaotic faceting is what causes that amazing checkerboard patterning! Love it.
I’d love to see the lab report if you have it and pictures showing the profile of the stone.
Enjoy!
Wow look at all those little squares of light. Wonderful.
Gah-gorgeous diamond and ring! You always have the best settings!
When you get a chance can you pls post a pic of this ring with your oec? I’d love to see the juxtaposition of the facet patterns bc I’m a nerd
Amen to that!!!
I should start out by saying that this project started with a glass of wine and a quick spur of the moment purchase. I have never considered a transitional diamond because I love the Old Euro small tables and higher crowns. However, something drew me in and I went for it. I am so grateful that I did it! It is a breathtaking stone. It doesn't light up in a flower pattern but more of a checkerboard. It is continuously shimmering and flashing colors. It actually was hard to photograph because just the light coming through the trees with a breeze set it off sparkling like crazy. I don't even notice the lower crown because it's just constant movement. I can't believe I never looked at transitionals before! I do not run across a lot of them.
Sorry for the book.....here are the details.....
3.53 J VVS1 Transitional Cut Diamond set in a 18k Yellow Gold Octagonal cup Victoria setting. The rubies were custom cut for this piece and are French Cuts. I opted for a brighter red because they would be bezel set. I took some photos but didn't have much time because we have family in town. I will definitely post more later on this thread. I can't wait to figure out her personality and to be able to get some time to play with her in the garden with my camera. My family would not understand. Pretty sure I got some side eye when I took a picture earlier .
I will absolutely do that tomorrow! I am a nerd as well! Thank you so much for the nice words....you have an amazing collection that I may look at to often
Wow, that is stunning! I'd sure like to have some of whatever you were drinking before I start my next project!
Stunning as always!! Perfect pattern. I love OECs and Transitionals and the pattern on this one is TDF. Those juicy rubies too - so swoonworthy!
Thank you. I love your picture! Is there a thread about the ring?
Exquisite! A feast for the eyes!
Beautiful. Sumptuous & bright & happy & that checkerboard is just perfect
Will your swap it out on your ring finger or is it a RHR?
Took this in a very drab room. Gray walls and black furniture. Awful lighting. I usually dislike my diamonds while here. The transitional looks better than any of the others in the environment.
My car also has horrible optics for most of my rings but this stone looks pretty even there. I think it's the checkerboard pattern. It lights up in a lot of different areas so it just has different optics.
Enjoying seeing the different personalities of the diamond.
