So some know I bought this from Gene
passcher1.jpg
Now I am looking to set it. I went window shopping today to see what settings I could find. It's been confirmed that I need to stay with an ebay vendor as my budget for totaly setting cost is $500. I really like this setting from lan.bo4
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl..._trkparms=algo=LVI&its=I&otn=1#ht_3405wt_1139

He said he could create this setting for a 8.9mm asscher for $300. I told him I wanted clipped corners to fit an asscher.
Some have warned that I need to be really clear with him so I created this after having the stone measured by 2 jewelers today. Do you think this is helpful or confusing?

I think it would be more helpful if you made the schematic for the stone look like more like an octagon instead of a square with rounded corners. I would also be clear about what the 8.9mm refers to (the entire side or just the portion without the clipped corners). You can do this by drawing a line with clear end points extending out from the numbers (kind of like how you'd indicate standard deviation on a bar graph...make any sense?). I also think it would be helpful to have a diagonal measurement. I think the clearer you can be with pictures, the better, especially with it being electronic communication with a language barrier.

OK I see what you are saying. That is a lousy shape I just will have to teach myself to do something better. As for whether the 8.9 is the full length measurement or not..um I am not exactly sure. I believe it is full length as both jewelers measured in the middle of the stone? Is that making sense?

Jstarfireb’s advice is a good one. The setting for something cushion shaped will not fit as well on something octagonal. If you are providing a sketch to the setting vendor, showing an octagonal outline is important. Also include the side to side (<--->) AND diagonal measurement. Both are considered full length but sometimes the side to side isn’t necessarily the same as the diagonal measurement. Also, since yours is an asscher stone which is deeper than other cuts, don’t forget the depth measurement as well. Better to be safe than sorry.

Taking all this advice in..........can someone tell me if there are settings specifically for asschers? Can you link some? I have the depth on my picture. But I will take it back and get a diagonal measurement soon.
