My mom died in 1993. At that time, my sister got her wedding set and immediately took the stones out of it and had them reset into another ring.

While I believed that it was her right to do whatever she wanted with the rings, I was sad that no one could wear my mom''s ring and let us all see it as it looked on my mom''s hand for all those years.

My sister did mention at the time that she saved the white gold setting in case anyone wanted to put stones back into it. Twelve years later...and I did just that. The setting had been damaged by the removal of the stones so I had to have a new "strip setting" put on the top of the ring and of course, new stones. The center is a CZ...I will replace it with a diamond when hubby says I can.

I had my jeweler put in the top quality melee. The sidestones are F-G, VS clarity and 6 points each. I can see arrows in EVERY one of them when I look with my viewer! And they are VERY clean when I look them. I''m very happy with it.

While it is not a setting that I would choose today, the sentimental value is HUGE. It looks so much like it did on my mom''s hand. My older daughter loves it and knows that it will be hers some day. She wants my wedding ring and her Grandma''s ring. Daughter #2 wants my 3-stone diamond/sapphire ring. Not that I''m planning to check out any time soon!

Actually, if my older daughter wants this as her wedding ring some day, I''ll probably let her have it. Her boyfriend can put a real diamond in the middle if I don''t get around to it!

I can''t believe that I put the wrong "''" in my title! Oh well.

This side view is what I remember so strongly about the ring:

On my hand:

that is a very beautiful and unique setting. im glad you were able to salvage it and keep your mom''s memory alive! just lovely!

ooh, I like that!! Very nice!!

Patty- it''s beautiful! i am glad your mom''s ring is looking like it should

I think it''s awesome that you rebuilt your mom''s ring, and with really nice stones that are likely better than the originals! It looks wonderful.

oh Patty, I''m so glad you were able to keep the setting and fix it up a bit. what a special heirloom and how special it will be for your daughter.

Beautiful, Patty! I''m glad you could have the ring restored like that. A few year''s ago my mom had her original Ering diamond reset into a more modern style. She had the typical 1950''s round diamond in the square fishtail setting. The new ring was very pretty, but I missed seeing the "old" ring on her hand, just like you missed seeing your mom''s ring on her hand. My mom is still alive, and she says I''m getting the diamond in the new setting, plus the old setting someday. Not long ago, I had a diamond from my husband''s stepfather''s ring (which he inherited and gave to me) put in my mom''s old setting. Now I get to see it on her hand again, because she wears it sometimes "just for me"

I only have one complaint...you should post more pictures of that ring!

sjz, yes more pics Patty!!!!!

Oh Patty.....

I too always admired my mother''s set.
You have no idea how happy I am that you are able to have this.
I know you cherish it. It''s so special.
I''m glad you have it.
You deserve it.

I think it is just exquisite and even more beautiful because of the history. I am so glad you got to breathe life back into these lovely rings and have another special momento from your mom.

And I am sure when you are ready, Barry has one helluva stone for that center!

Aw, thank you all for your sweet comments!

sjz, I''m not super sentimental about my rings...I''ve changed them many times. But I AM sentimental about my mom''s ring because I remember how it looked on her. This was not her original wedding set. She lost the diamond out of her original e-ring and my dad replaced it with a smaller stone. It was several years and several children later and money was tight. She got this setting in the 1970s and then I went with her in the early 80s to pick out a new center stone that was the same size as her original that had been lost. (.63c) I remember how much she loved this ring, especially once she got the new center diamond.

FireGoddess, I''m sure you are right about these stones being better than the originals! I''ve been trying to capture the arrows in a photo with little luck. I''ll post one now and try to get more tomorrow.

DF...you are right about my girls. If I suddenly disappear, please instigate an investigation, will you?

Patty, I just love the set and the story behind it. I wear my mom''s old wedding band as my wedding band and it just means so much to me, so I totally understand how you feel.

The side profile is definitely unusual and fun!! Congrats on the revival.

Jennifer, Barry had a PERFECT diamond a while back that would have worked but he sold it before I could pester my husband for it. It was an F, SI2 and I think .60 or so.

I know, I know, the SI2 is a bit high for me on clarity, but what are ya gonna do?

Anyway, we had just gone our big family vacation and it was NOT the time to ask for a new diamond. Besides, now I can enjoy looking...that''s half the fun!

The persuading the hubby is the WORK.

Another shot of it (by request!):

A bit blurry but it shows the unique side profile. This is a little different than I remember. I did not take "before" pictures. What I remember is the "bumps" on the band leading up to the head. I don''t remember the open spaces under the head like you see here. But it''s close enough.

The (blurry) bumps:

They''re so lovely Patty - thank you for sharing the rings and the history behind them.

To have such a visual memory of your mom is very special.

I like the profile of that ring! I''m not sentimental about my own jewelry either (I''ve upgraded and changed settings a coupla times myself

) But for some reason, I''ve always been sentimental about my mom''s and my grandma''s rings. I guess it''s because the rings remind us of the people we love! And thanks for the other pictures!

Patty
at least your girls appreciate beautiful jewelry. my wife told our daughters, i hope you girls don''t pawn my jewelry after i''m gone.

I love that. It''s such a strong profile! I think that''s wonderful that you put the CZ in for now. A setting like that shouldn''t be tossed aside, not to mention the wonderful sentimental value that it has. Sigh. I wish we could hold on to our loved ones healthy and happy forever.

Patty, your mom''s ring looks just lovely! I''m so glad you were able to restore it to its former glory. What a wonderful, sentimental piece for you, and someday, your daughters.

That''s great Patty, it''s lovely as is the sentimental meaning.

That is a beautiful ring set Patty and it is so nice that you have it to wear in memory of your Mother!

Oh Patty, the ring is just gorgeous and the sentimental value is priceless. I''m so glad you did this.
