So I guess you may have seen by now that I lost two rings: my CBI solitaire and my CBI and Finewater sapphire.:(sad I am remaking my sapphire (gathering stones now, probably a few weeks away from actually putting it back together).

My new sapphire just came. I’m spending some time with it. So here is the new finewater sapphire. Oops. BRB. Furniture delivery is here

And with my .70 studs but I think they are too big.

We had severe weather last night and all night and it’s super dreary today so I haven’t really gotten to know it.

As with most sapphires, the photos don’t do it justice. In person, it’s a stellar crystal— super sparkly and mesmerizing, beguiling and charismatic.

I think it’s a 2.29

It’s also already full of my fingerprints lol

The line disappears when I turn it. This also happened with my 4 carat GIA elongated oval I made into a pendant, so it’s an optical thing that shows up in some ovals. It’s not real lol. (In case anyone was wondering)

This sapphire matches well with my studs, and the oval pendant has the violet modifier, so it doesn’t go as well with the pendant as the studs. It’s ok though. I’m more of a blend person rather than a matchy matchy person.

Absolutely gorgeous! Loving the color. Is this from Finewater?

P.S. I'm always tempted to go bigger with accent diamond weight. But sometimes smaller stones really are in order to let the focal CS shine. So I would indeed reduce the side stone size a bit. I look forward to seeing the finished piece! :kiss2:

Thanks, I need to figure out how to compare it to my lost one. The proportions I had for that one were great and never bothered me, so I would say it’s a winning combination. Proven lol (you know how we can be)

I love it! Sorry about losing your others. I have lost/had stolen a few pieces and it still bums me out. I am glad you are finding a replacement piece which makes it a little easier not to stress about our lost pieces of the past.

First off, I just want to pass along my sympathies over your lost rings. They were beautiful and I know the whole thing has been extremely frustrating for you.

Having said all that, I'm so glad to see you've decided to start on a new blue sapphire ring project. The sapphire you've chosen looks gorgeous! I can't wait to see this project come to life. Are you planning on keeping it as similar to the last one as possible or going off in a new direction?

Thank you.

I would say mostly the same. The only think I need to think about is the last ring had a wider band and was designed like that in case I wanted to wear a band, which I never did.

let me see if I can find a pic: (lost ring) AC49DE91-64CC-4A45-944D-2447031DCDE1.jpeg

I am thinking it will be a trellis setting but maybe more like a ER?

The new sapphire is very glittery. I need to take a post a video.

A awful as the lost rings were, I can say that your new sapphire truly is a fabulous stone. Do you have the measurements of this stone? I hope the sting lessens with time and the excitement of fashioning a new masterpiece. I can't wait to see what you do with, because that sapphire is going to make a wonderful centerpiece!
Were you thinking like the WF butterfly, or something else?

Thanks. Yes, I was so enamored by the first ring— can’t believe that happened. Frustrating!

I am very much looking forward to getting a sapphire ring back.

I’ll update with measurements tomorrow, thanks.

I love the color of your new sapphire @whitewave! I can’t wait to see it done and on your finger!

ok. So the lost sapphire was IF clarity medium blue with violet undertones. The side stones are below it

6.73 X 5.98 X 4.98 1.64 c

5.29 X 5.32 x 3.27 .56 G
5.36 X 5.38 X 3.29 .578 F

the new sapphire is
7.44 X 6.45 X 5.64 2.29 VVS

I was thinking of shooting for around .62-.64 side stones since I feel like the .70 (5.5m) is too large for this sapphire, which is chubbier than the last one.

I need to double check the studs sizes

It’s sunny today so I’ll try to get some more pics in. I haven’t really started Christmas shopping yet and the tree isn’t decorated yet etc. Hair appointment today etc.

That sapphire... what a beautiful stone and your source, Gary, has to be commended. I am tempted to look for a sapphire for a ring after seeing yours. I think you're on the right track by slightly reducing the diamond size for balance and can't wait to see the finished ring!

Thank you. I also bought my aquamarine and my yellow sapphire from Gary at Finewarter gems. He has a really pretty yellow I might also buy later for a pendant. Let me see if I have pics of the other stones:

I’ll find a pic of the yellow sapphire later. I also have a star sapphire I haven’t set yet.

Ok. More pics in morning sun.

The pics don’t do the stone justice. It’s the truest blue I have ever seen and there are no secondary colors.

I’ll try to take more pics this evening.

I think the side stone size range will be a great fit with your gorgeous sapphire! The new sapphire is much larger than the last one! I can’t wait to see the ring put together!

Thank you.

Ok so my studs are both 5.71 x5.73 mm

so I need something between 5.3 and 5.7 mm looking at 5.5 maybe

ETA: is anyone good at math and can compute the percentages of side stones to center stone?

I'm so sorry about your lost rings. I was really hoping you would find them but I have to say that new sapphire is just gorgeous!! It's going to make a fabulous ring.

Beautiful, sparkly stone! Happy you found this!

@Catmom thanks, yeah, I was hopeful but I truly believe they are gone and if I ever find them it will be years from now.

@ilovegemstones thank you so much

I went with two D color vs1 and vs2 HPHT lab .62 sidestones. 5.5mm. While I do love an icy white D (my original er is a type II D super white stone) I was really looking for F color but with my search parameters, D color is where I ended up.

Honestly, I wanted the least expensive, period, the end. I hate to sound like such a wuss but I’m to the point where if I lose it, I’ll just buy a new one. I’m sure I’m just a bit jaded/burned by the loss of the rings, but I also know if I ever want to go back to better/branded or mined, etc, I can redo the ring. It’s a fixable issue.

right now, lab is where my head is

That's a stunning stone! I agree that the diamonds are a bit too big. Are you going for the same setting as the lost ring? So sorry about that BTW. Or are you changing it up some?

I think basically the same
