I bought the setting from Jared''s to take it home and try it out. They have a 30 day return policy. I didn''t have them put my stone in it because I wanted to see it for a while first. What do you think? This is the best photo I''ve gotten. I''ll follow with some "poorer" photos and keep working on getting the camera thing down. It sparkles like crazy outside. Whenever I''m outside I absolutely love it. It is taking some adjustment to get used to the "whiteness" of the pave compared to just plain white gold or platinum. Tell me what you think. Is it a keeper? I only paid $800 for it and it is .5 c pave. If I keep it, they are going to set my .5c rb really low and I should easily be able to put my upgrade stone in it when the time comes.

I think it is a beautiful looking setting!

For $800, that is a real steal...but the fact is, YOU need to love it to keep it...I personally love the antiquey look...with your center stone, it will be a dream come true...best wishes!

What metal is this? Did you say that?

I forgot to say that it is white gold. The more I have taken pictures of it the more I like it. I really liked it in the store, but now that I have been wearing it and taking pictures I think I am beginning to love it.

If you love it, that is all that matters.

We''ll see if this one is any better.

Last one. Thanks for your replies. I know it matters if I love it. The unfortunate thing is that I tend to love A LOT of things. We see tons of rings on this forum. I want an honest opinion of it. I know it isn''t going to look like a Leon custom creation. But do you think it is a poor girls good substitute? I just wish I could take a better picture. I don''t know how I got so lucky with that first shot.

Great choice!!!!!

hehe, i don''t think it looks like a poor man''s substitute..it''s beautiful and really captures that antique feel. If you love it, then I think you should keep it.

I love it...I''m a sucker for those antique setting! And, $800 seems like a total steal to me...especially if the band is included! (Didn''t read enough to check...I''m lazy!)

It looks very substantial and detailed! Gorgeous in IMHO!

I say it''s a keeper for sure!

I love it...and would say the price is a steal for sure...let us know what you decide.

It is a very attractive setting and seems quite reasonable for the price!

Hi jewelryaddict...I think your setting is very nice. However, I would like to know why is it so different than the rings in your avatar. The avatar rings are more contemporary whereas your new setting is somewhat antique. I love them both but such a vast difference.

Msbennie, I started my engagement with a family piece that was set in yellow gold. It was so old and antique looking and the gold was such a different color that nothing yellow gold would match it. It''s hard to explain. Old gold just looks different. My then fiance said that we should reset the stone. We didn''t get the job done before we had a family and friends engagement party thrown for us. At the party of course everyone wanted to see my ring. Everyone raved at how Unique it was and they all said I shouldn''t reset it. I would be crazy!! Well, I didn''t reset it. I wore it that way for five years. I liked it a lot but always felt that I didn''t have the opportunity to really ever pick anything out. So for our five year anniversary my husband said I should pick a new setting. I swung so far to the contemporary that I bought a Scott Kay two tone with baguettes. I''ve worn that for five years now. Although I liked it and thought it looked nice, I could never find the right band to go with it. About a year ago one of my prongs really got bent and I took it to a local family jeweler to have it repaired. I said that I was always catching things with the prongs and he said he thought he might be able to set the diamond down between where the head was coming up from. I wasn''t sure I wanted to do that and he said that''s OK he''d have to see if it would even fit. He was supposed to call me to let me know if it fit and when he did I said that I thought just repairing the prongs would be a better choice. He told me he had already lowered my diamond and that it wasn''t something that could easily be fixed. He was right about that. I took it to several jewelers and they quoted prices of $300-$500 just to build the prongs up because the whole ring would have to be reworked. I started to think that I would get a new setting and stone. Went back and forth on that forever. I then vistited a jeweler in Dallas who had beautiful custom rings. He showed me a ring that isn''t too far off from the set that I just bought. Of course it was more intricate with kite shaped diamonds and so forth. I thought it was so beautiful and even tried to figure out how I could justify the 3500 price tag. I went away dreaming of that ring. I thought I was going to go with a classic solitaire as a "temp" with a five stone band I have until I could upgrade my diamond. But I couldn''t shake the gorgeous ring I had tried on that I couldn''t afford. I walked into Jareds with the idea of buying an inexpensive solitaire setting (like a Lucida knock off). Put my diamond in that until I could get what I really wanted a few years down the road. When I saw this it was so much like the custom one I tried on and it was something I could afford.
In the end I think that if you can''t afford a big diamond then a really unique setting will stand out. The first five years of my marriage I would get asked about my ring at least once a week. The five years I wore the Scott Kay only a handful of people commented on it, and they were usually people who were also wearing Scott Kay. I liked my original antique setting and I think I would have loved it for many years if I would have been the one to pick it. This one I got to pick. We''ll see if I keep it. But I think the chances are good.
I know that a huge diamond is never in the cards for me. I''m and elementary school administrator and my husband is a teacher/coach. We will upgrade, but it will be to a .80 or .90 diamond. I would be perfectly content with that down the road. Thanks for reading a long answer to such a short question.

Thanks for responding jewelryaddict...so, what you''re saying is that the ring(s) in your avatar were never a setting that you wore... you started with a Scott Kay and from there decided to go the antique route??? I''m asking all of this because my engagement ring is almost identical to the one in your avatar. It is contemporary and very simple and I would never go the antique route. Just wanted to know why you switched from contemporary to anitque... If I''m not getting it, just ignore my post.
