There is some backstory to this...
The pastor I wanted to officiate at my wedding was my pastor growing up, but both of us have since left that area (myself in Georgia and he in Florida). I always loved his style, and my family had relied on him more then once to help us through some tough times. All along, I had mentally planned to ask him to officiate. I had also had my heart set on a fall wedding, mostly looking towards October.
We finally finished our very long, drawn out search for a venue (August 2007 thru Christmas-time) and settled on a beautiful lodge in upstate South Carolina and booked October 25th. When I was talking later with my Mom, she wondered, "Isn''t that reformation?"? Oh, no! What is reformation, you may be asking? Well, I am Lutheran, and it a celebration of when Martin Luther nailed his 95 theses on the church doors and got the whole protestant thing going. Not a good time to ask a Lutheran minister to leave his church for a weekend.
Now what do I do? I really, really wanted him to officiate. Would I have to change my date, which I picked partially to insure the beautiful fall colors? So, my Mom had been on my case for weeks to call him and see if he would do it, and I dragged my feet, dreading the possible outcome. Well, I finally got my s**t together, and left him a message this past week.
And...he called me back this morning and said it shouldn''t be a problem!!
I had contacted him far enough in advance that he can work it out. We talked for a little bit, and I called my Mom right away after I got off the phone with him to share the good news. She was thrilled, too!
So, check another item off my list!
