Some of you may recall that my boyfriend (now fiance!) and I bought an unset padparadscha from the Natural Sapphire Company way back in January. Well, it''s finally set and on my hand. I love it!

The sapphire is 1.08 carats, and is set in platinum. (Turned out to be A LOT of platinum. Lucky my FI loves me.

I''m amazed by how different the stone looks in each different lighting condition. (Although the rose may have something to do with that here. What can I say? Apparently my FI has a romantic streak after all.)

V E the ring. Would you mind sharing more details about the setting?

It sits nice and low, so I can fit latex gloves over it at work with no problem.

Unfortunately, I didn''t figure out the macro setting on my camera until the last 2 pictures I took (with the rose), so this is particularly horrible. But there''s a tiny yellow diamond set on the palm side, surrounded by an engraved flower. It''s a detail from an ornament Louis Sullivan designed for the Chicago Stock Exhange. He''s my favourite architect, and to me a symbol of a lot of the things I love about Chicago. We''re currently in Chicago but will likely leave some day, so now I have the city on my ring! Plus my wedding band will be a much more ornate engraved band using one of his cornice patterns. Sorry for the bad picture!

Thank you so much! I wish the pictures showed the peachy colour of the stone a little better, but at least now I have an excuse to try again. I don''t have many details about the setting, since we had it custom made. I do know that the band is 5mm at its widest point, with a slight taper to 4mm on the inside. It''s a half bezel setting, and it''s platinum.

I also have a permanent guard/horseshoe sizing thing on the inside, which is amazing. You can see from the picture that I have pretty big knuckles, and the only way I can get the ring on and off comfortably is to have it way too big for my finger. But with the guard, it fits snugly no matter what the temperature, and no matter how much salt I''ve eaten!

Wow, what a beautiful ring, and I love the yellow diamond with the engraved flower making it truly your ring as much as I love the beautiful stone and setting! Congrats again!!

That''s really cool to have a symbolic design on the palm side of the ring.

Thanks, Gwendolyn and Chrono. I like the palm design, but there are certain problems: it''s going to be a problem if I ever need to size it, and that part gets lots of wear. But it makes me smile!

Well Pjean, you bought my favorite sapphire off all time. The Padparadscha. I LOVE them and.... I LOVE your ring.

It is beautiful and I adore the setting. Isn''t Steven Bliss a doll to work with???? I have purchased many padparadscha''s from him. Yes, they do change in different lighting and it is so fun to look at them that way.

Your ring looks beautiful on your hand. Can you take more pictures of that beauty???

Oh and I forgot to say. CONGRATULATIONS to you and your fiance.

I love how heavy the band of that ring is -- the setting is beautiful and it looks great on you!

Congratulations!

Congratulations on your engagement pjean!! Your ring is perfect for wearing under gloves!

I just replied on your LIW thread...It''s beautiful! My FI was considering to buy a sapphire from NSC as well. Your FI (isn''t it lovely?) did a great job!

Wow! It''s beautiful, and so many cool details! Congrats!

I was already in love with the graceful simple setting, and THEN the diamond and the engraving on the back!!! To die for!

Beautiful ring!!! I''ll look forward to seeing the w-band, too!

Pjean, what a gorgeous ring, congrats on the beautiful color and setting!

Thank you all! I''m delighted to report that I still like it, all these hours of staring later.

the pink!

That looks to me like a ring you could wear absolutely anywhere, anytime. It is lovely. Such smooth lines and a nice transition where the stone is set in.

Sneaky you, getting a bit of Louis Sullivan on the underside! What a great idea!

Your ring is gorgeous!!!
