My green tourmaline has arrived from acstones.com!
T-4347C.jpg

I''ll post pictures as soon as I can...

IT IS SPECTACULAR!
I think it looks even better in person... perhaps a little bit more of grassy green than I expected, but still GORGEOUS!

It''s BIG! I mean, I knew it would be 8.4 mm, and I know that I have larger fingers (size 7.25), but I guess I thought that it would be a little smaller... I don''t know... You know what they say about skrinkage, though!

I''m just dying to get it set!

BTW, Barbara from acstones.com is great! Pleasant, helpful, intelligent, and honest. I highly recommend her.

Yay, I can''t wait to see it!!!

Yes, it''s going to be a ring. I''ve got a bunch of threads about it floating around...

Now, if I could only find my digital camera...

I''ll do what I can... may have to get one from a friend... whoops...

In the meantime, I need all of your help!

I LOVE this stone, but the more by BF and I look at it, the more we feel like maybe it''s more of a fashion ring piece... it''s so gorgeous and elegant and ohmygoshthecolor... but how can we set it so it looks more "like an engagement ring"? Any suggestions?

you need some diamonds to make it look engagementy or maybe just some pretty engravement?

Great choices, Layne! I particularly like the first and third mountings.

Velourial...I hope you don''t change your mind about using the stone as an Ering!!

I think use of white metal, engraved or mounted with tiny diamonds, sort of delicate, will DEFINITELY look like an Ering. And you can still have the stone bezel set and it will be magnificent!

I really do LOVE this stone, I just wish it were a TINY bit smaller. Any tips for minimizing a stone size?

Thanks, Layne, those are all great inspiration. I love Leon Mege''s work, and anything from him is bound to look good...

Thanks, Widget, for the encouragement, too. Tiny diamonds and/or engraving is probably the way to go.

don''t start trying to minimize it yet velouria! give it some time, i''m sure you will get very comfortable with the size

Okay, so I got some pictures... none are very good... but I tried! It looks SO much better in real life.. more like acstone''s professional picture!

First, here''s one on my hand. You can''t see the stone, but you can get an idea of the size... and how it looks on my 7.25, short chubby fingers.

Here''s one that TRIES to capture the look of the stone... it''s all cloudy and dirty, but NOT in real life...

And another...

And here is me... with my gorgeous tourmaline... in my, um, mouth...

Heeehee...

Yeah, I''m pretty crazy...

Oh wow, boy is that just gorgeous!!! Love everything about it, the color, the cut and the shape. Awesome stone!!!

It''s beautiful and I like the way it looks on your finger -- I got an immediate image of it surrounded by the thinnest bezel possible to accentuate that wonderful shape, rose, pink, or yellow gold.....delicious!

Lovely stone. I love tourmalines, I think they''re very undervalued.

I bought a really pretty Russian demantoid garnet ring set in silver; same wonderful knockout green colour. The white metal really makes the vibrant green colour pop. I''d go for platinum for a e-ring.

In the box.

Thanks guys!
I like that idea, Matata. I went to WF (I live in Houston) and Leon was concerned that it putting it in a bezel might put the stone at risk while setting... hmm...

Ooh! Those are some beautiful demantoids bagpuss.

Yeah... but some "halo" settings are not really bezels. This one has the center stone prong set.

The tourmaline is by no means "too big" for a ring ! It looks just right on your hand.

I love my coloured gemstones. This ring and a tourquoise pairaiba tourmaline were my most recent purchases.
I love the idea of a coloured stone e-ring. Over here in the UK, many women wear coloured e-rings. I have a 25th anniversary ring - a ceylon sapphire and diamond oval - which I often wear as an alternative e-ring. The only trouble is that people think I''m trying to emulate the look of the late Princess Diana''s e-ring, which I''m not.

Here''s a pic to give you an idea of what quite a big coloured stone can look like on the left hand.
