leeny- that''s awesome! let me know if you go with Melissa! I''m really excited to have her shoot our wedding. We don''t have a florist, and right now i''m not comfortable recommening our dj (has been a bit pushy so far) but i know that a LOT of people have been really happy with Mike Staff an his dj''s and i have to say that both (all two of!) the weddings i''ve been to of theirs were pretty e good. i DEFINITELY recommen i do too bridal salon in plymouth - the owner there is AWESOME, they have some great dresses and are really accomodating (they gave me $200 off my dress because they couldn''t sell me the sample when i asked. our baker is this little hungarian shop in allen park that is ridiculously cheap but isn''t super fancy (great tasting samples though!) called, ironically, the fancy pastry shop.
are you guys just considering venues downtown? which ones are in the running? we had looked into the masonic temple and the max fisher music center, but both were out of our price range

Thanks, Mimzy! It's great to get resources from someone who's been there. At this point, yes, we are just considering downtown, as we would love travel to be easy between church, reception and hotel (we are doing January). However, budget is quickly becoming an issue, as usual! So I'm stressing a bit, thinking we might consider doing our hometown, which will be MUCH cheaper, but not as exciting. We will see!
Gem Theater is the least expensive right now, haven't heard from the new Fort Shelby or Atheneum in Greektown. My mom is going to make some calls for me this week (I am studying for finals!) so we will see.
If we end up not doing Detroit, I hope Melissa travels! (it's 90 minutes from Ann Arbor).

yeah, budget was a huge issue for us too. what''s your hometown? we had to settle on a place in pontiac, but now i''m super happy with it (the lafayette grande). the ballroom is beautiful and the area is *slightly* urban (it''s right downtown....but it''s still pontiac).
i really hope you find someplace that you both like!
