I wanted to get some fun large stones for earrings and came across this lovely matched set from GemSelect. It is pure pink mystic topaz. Never heard of it before, but it looked intriguing. I have never ordered from GemSelect, so I figured it would be a good opportunity to see how "real" their pictures are. If the stones look anything as nice as they do in the pics, I will be more than thrilled.

Anyone have any mystic topaz jewelry they want to share?

Here is the link to the stones:

It''s my understanding that Mystic Topaz is created by coating topaz with something, and that the coating can be scratched or worn off. But they do look fun!

It is a coating, but it can last a long time if you take care of it.

"A new high tech enhancement process applied to colorless stones such as topaz and quartz has created a new variety we call "Mystic Topaz." The enhancement changes the optical properties of the stone and provides a kaleidoscope of color. The applied treatment is durable, hard, and only a few microns in thickness. With care, the enhancement will last the life of the jewelry setting."

I''ve had a sunset (? orangey) mystic topaz step cut pendant for at least 5 years and it looks the same as the day I bought it! It''s so pretty, and I love those pinks

As long as you don''t chip the stone it should be fine. I''ve never heard of the coating ever rubbing off.

Mystic topaz is very pretty and the ring I had (I have since sold it) held up quite well.

My understanding is that these stones are coated on the pavilion, not on the crown. As you look down through the table, you see light reflected back from the coated portion of the stone. So depending on the setting (such as in a ring), the coating may well be protected from scratches and chips. Anyway, as other posters have noted, these are mainly fun stones. But it is remarkable what kinds of colors they can produce.

hey metromom - blinkydoll once posted her pink topaz ring, and I ended up buying one just like it. I don't wear mine everyday, but I love the color, and it's just a fun piece of jewelry. Here's a pic of mine:

eta: uh, that's not all one ring - the other one's a green quartz, same design.
