natural vanadium chromium tourmaline

Very nice - a bit underrated gem if nicely cut and not to dark.

And a very good size.

yes, not so common in trade, most ppl knows about paraiba and rubellite, a good size and color with good cutting is rare.

I would say that the cut really doesn’t do this one a favor, nice color and size though!

Lovely! Where's it from?

I have a couple of small (approx 7 mm long) vanadium tourmaline crystals from Mogok and they are the same sort of beautiful lush green colour:
Fluor-uvite colored by vanadium, Mogok.JPG
They are superficially similar to tsavorite, and if this material were more easily available, I could see it becoming a popular gem choice.

A new specimen arrived here today that was sold as demantoid garnet, but close inspection of the crystals show that they are stubby rhombohedral prisms with a hexagonal cross-section, so a tourmaline species. The deep green colour, crystal form, and marble (magnesite?) matrix suggests fluor-uvite tourmaline coloured vy chromium and/or vanadium. I'm not sure where they are from, other than Afghanistan or Pakistan.1700695403080.png
