This does not begin to touch brgirl''s deal in Maine, but it is decent and the proceeds go to a worthy cause:

5/15–6/4 At The Bridal Garden sale, gently used gowns from Ulla Maija, Carolina Herrera, and Anne Barge—$495 (usually $2,000 to $5,000)—have already seen wedding action, but they’re ready for more. Proceeds benefit disadvantaged children. 54 W. 21st St., nr. Fifth Ave., Ste. 907 (212-252-0661); Mon. and Thurs. (noon–8); Tues. (2–10); Fri. and Sun. (11–7); Sat. (10–10).

You''ll need to make an appointment. Maybe someone more familiar with the the place could comment on the frequency of sales. Public transportation is the way to go.

Just curious, where did you find this info? I didn''t see anything about the sale on their website...I feel like I keep missing all these sample sales!!!

Before I go into Manhattan, I always do a search for deals. This happened to come from the New Yorker Magazine site. I was there yesterday, but I didn''t have time to shop.

Their last sale in January was the first place I ever looked for a wedding gown. The space is TINY and the dresses are jammed in based on size range. You poke through the racks yourself and there is someone there to ask questions, etc, but its not a full service kind of place. And what you see is definitely what you get.

You need the appointment because there are only three dressing rooms. Its really the luck of the draw there - when I went, I tried on about a dozen dresses and one was more ridiculous than the next. But, the gal in the room next to mine had on a beautiful gown that she was going to purchase.

I felt that while the cause was good, I needed more service for this type of purchase, and more choices. But, depending on what kind of shopper you are, it could be worth the trip.
