Hey Everyone! Just to introduce myself, I'm 27, from Toronto, Canada and I'm in a the market for an engagement ring. I've been doing my research for the last 2 weeks and I think I've learned enough about diamonds that I'm pretty confident in what I want to purchase. Many thanks to Pricescope and its user-base for the wealth of info!

Just as a preface, I will most likely go with the below James Allen setting:
http://www.jamesallen.com/engagement-rings/settings-with-sidestones/Platinum-Common-Prong-Ring.html

For the center diamond, I have found two similarly priced diamonds that I like but having a hard time deciding which one I should go with:

(1)1.04ct G SI1 Round, GIA triple Excellent
http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/7274/

(2) 1.12ct H SI1 Round, GIA triple Excellent
http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/7277/

I have read that an H or even an I color diamond can still look very white to an untrained eye when mounted on a platinum ring. It just seems that comparing the two photos of the actual diamonds, I do notice the slight yellow hue of the H diamond, but if it indeed looks unnoticeable when mounted, I don't think I'd mind the higher color grade.

The other conflicting factor is the inclusions, the G diamond has a crystal which I can see as black inside the NE arrow on the photo. I question if that will be naked eye visible when mounted. On the other hand, the H diamond has some feathers near the edge which I'm sure can be covered by a prong.

So my question is, taking into account the diamond being in the setting, should I go with the slightly smaller, better color, but possibly more noticeably included G diamond, or the larger, slightly colored, more clear H diamond?

Any commented on the diamonds, setting or vendors are greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Nope - can't tell colour from photos. Really can't. I could make that diamond look like a fancy pink with the right - wrong - wbalance, lighting..

Determine what 'visible' and 'eyeclean' mean to you - distance, from face-up or from the side as well, and ask GOG if the stones meet your specifications. Can't tell inclusion visibility from magnified photos.

For me, I would say eye-clean is looking at the mounted stone from 6 inches and not being able to be say there is an inclusion with any certainty. As I'm not able to see the diamond in person, I emailed GOG last Thursday and asked them to provide some side profile and raised angle photographs of the G diamond. I'm not sure if they provide those types of photos or not.

well, why not wait for their reply, they can answer your questions better than we can as they have the stone in hand ::)
