These are not my photos so I unfortunately could not make them any clearer. Any and all help is appreciated. A friend (who received it as a gift from someone she had a falling out with) is selling for $500; 14k gold with small diamonds around the stone. She sent me the 14k mark on the inside of the band, but I'm wondering if the opal looks legit and if this is a steal for the price (or if my friend was lied to and this isn't worth $500 at all)? Thank you!

It looks like genuine opal to me.
I'll call in an expert to talk about opals...calling @Bron357 !

It does look like a genuine opal, maybe Coober Pedy? But imo it’s mall grade as the pin flashes are not brilliant and the opal looks more milky white than colourful. You might want to take some photos in sunlight to see the real color.

The setting is pretty though and if it’s 14k and the diamonds are sparkling, I would say $500 seems fair for the overall ring. Are you in love with it? What if you offered $400?

Looks real to me too and peacechick has said it all.

Mall quality and not really strong colour flashes.

It does look real but it's not great quality. The colors are not lively (from the photo) nor vibrant. As @Burmesedaze and @peacechick wrote it is mall quality at best.

It’s a white opal, the most common variety. It doesn’t seem to have a great play of colour so it’s not a good quality opal.
I wouldn’t pay $500 for it second hand, more like $250.
Ok it has wee diamonds $350.

Looks real to me but I am not in the business. Taking photos of opals is really hard to catch the light. It may be prettier in person. The opal looks like nice size but can't tell anything about the diamonds. Isn't $500 pretty cheap for the setting alone? Sizing can be hard as opals have a tendency to crack or chip.

From my understanding it can be done if done by someone who knows how to work with opals. I sized my Opal ring from a size 3.75 to a 6 without any issues.

Looks real but not stellar quality to be honest. I wouldn’t pay $500 for it...
