My aunt is looking for a 2.5 to 3.5 carat cushion. She is working with WF, but i thought i would see if you PSers could dig up anything for her. No real budgetary restrictions, but she does want a good deal.

Also, she wants a ring custom made. She likes pave and halo''s, so i have suggested she contact Leon Mege. Is there someone else you all recommend?

Thanks!

Mark at Engagement Rings Direct has been mentioned here as being very knowledgeable about cushions and able to select a good one.

I highly recommend Quest. They made my halo ring for my asscher. If she''s working with WF, that''s great. I''d also have her contact Mark Turnoswki from www.engagementringsdirect.com Mark has found some of the prettiest cushions I have ever seen on PS. He also does custom settings as well. Sounds like a fun project for your aunt. Leon Mege as you already mentioned is awesome. So you are off to a great start!!! Good luck!!! Lisa

Cushions are cut in different shapes and faceting paterns..., do you know what typr your aunt is looking for?

Now, in the size you are searching which is 2.5 to 3.5 cts., and the fact that she wants a "good deal", may bring you to Cushions that are problematic.

A nicely cut cushion of decent quality in the size range you want..., are probably the most sought after cushions out there.

Br carefull on the cushions that are categorized as GOOD deals...

Thanks all. Does anyone have any opinions on the ones that are listed on the search here?

Also--When i said good deal, i just meant she didn''t want to go to Harry Winston or anything, she wanted to use a PS vendor. She is willing to spend the money to get a great one-- so i hope she can find one!

I second Mark T. He seems to be the cushion guy around here. Also, I believe you can buy daniel K cushions and not have to buy the settings. NiceIce.com and Pearlmans are both daniel K vendors. All Daniel K cushions have excellent polish and symmentry.

have heard of people on here that said they have a DK diamond. I assumed it meant the stone was somehow supplied by DK or purchased from DK by a vendor. i will do some more research on my end.

here's what Todd at NiceIce said in an old thread you can find here

We source all of our Cushion Cut Diamonds from Daniel K as we do our Asscher cut diamonds and we sell nothing else because the production is superb. The diamonds are cut by D.D. Manufacturing out of Belgium and they distribute their Asscher & Cushion Cut production through D.K. and their princess cut production through another company which we source our princess cuts from. D.K. is the primary U.S. distributor and the designer line portion of the company - as an authorized sight holder for the DeBeers Diamond Trading Company, D.D. Manufacturing is REQUIRED to create and promote a branded line of jewelry and a certain percentage of it's production MUST be distributed in mounted form - these are the new rules of the DTC as of a few years ago - hence the sudden creation of all the different brands of diamonds! Can you buy direct from D.D.M. - no, and neither can we although we meet with the primary cutter and our D.K. representative on a regular basis to purchase inventory and negotiate the terms of our distribution contract for their production... We were privy to a conversation where a dealer was trying to talk directly with the cutter in hopes of purchasing about three million dollars worth of diamonds in one fell swoop and were impressed when he pointed to the representitive who we work with and said "I am the manufacturer, he is the distributor, if you want to buy the diamonds you talk to him" and that was that.

Fabrikant, the other company mentioned in the article does not purchase diamonds from D.D.M. - they are another cutting firm and like D.D.M., they have arrangements with other companies for the branded distribution of their production... And as we recall, Fabrikant also happens to be the U.S. Distributor for the Royal Asscher... It's amazing how intertwined a lot of these companies are when you start to watch the web unravel[/u]

We are a authorized Daniel K dealer and you can purchase both mounted and loose diamonds from them.

I never heard of a rule like this...
I know that DTC promtes "vertical integration", but there are plenty of sight holders that dont participate or believe in this strategy...

Hi DiaGem.

the thread I linked where Todd said that if from 2004, so I don''t know how accurate the information is at this time. He also doesn''t post much anymore so I''m not sure he''ll even see this for an "update."

anyway, the good news is you can purchase loose diamonds from DK

definitely, but I''ve had a hard time finding the ex/ex combo in generic cushions. I don''t know about asschers because I haven''t researched them.

Thank you all for the info.

Perhaps i can talk my aunt and uncle into taking a road-trip to Michigan to go to Pearlmans!
