I have purchased several sapphires recently. She will need to pick her favorite for a ring. They are all oval shaped. Now here was an idea that I had. The ring is going to be a seamless and prong-less halo with the sides and front open under the stone showing off it's lower half.

I know by nature that sapphires especially the following she likes are not particularly bright. Light often passes through and not back out. They sort of drink it.

What if under the stone following her finger the same way the oval will (length wise from knuckle to knuckle. And not side to side) there were small but perfect cut princess diamonds or moissanite? They would serve to possible project some light back up and through the bottom of the stone. If bright enough they might even be visible through the sapphire and would increase it's over all brilliance?

Has anyone ever seen a design like this?

You should really ask "why is it so dark?". Putting glittery stuff behind the stone is only going to help if a lot of the light is seeping through the bottom of the stone (instead of being reflected back off the pavilion facets, and into your eyes). In your case, it sounds more like the stone is just extremely dark (has a lot of extinction), such that most of the light never even reaches the bottom.

Maybe you can post some pictures? It would help a lot, if people had a clearer idea what the stone and setting look like.

Putting small stones underneath a sapphire is not going to make the sapphire pick up more light. A more open style setting will let in more light rather than something like a bezel.

To light up the sapphire from behind, you'd need small LEDs in the setting (joking).
But I don't understand: you have already bought several sapphires that are all too dark and oval? If she is to chose, then why didn't you buy different color types? Like sky blue, and marine blue etc. and what happens to the others you bought?
Just asking.

A dark stone can only look lighter and brighter if you actually have a light source behind it, not by adding a "mirror".

The stones are still in the mail. I guess what I was picturing in my mind was an effect similar to how the facets on the pavilion react with the facets on the crown to make them more brilliant. But the same stone viewed through the table isn't as bright (in appearance). But a faceted stone under the pavilion viewed through the table might have a similar effect as the pavilion viewed trough the crown.

Simply put, get a well cut sapphire that isn't too dark in tone, then you don't have to jump through burning hoops to try to make it look pretty when set. A well cut sapphire of medium to medium dark tone is what you are describing, when viewed naturally from the crown (without being backlit).

Can you get your money/deposit back? If you want a sparkly stone, then it sounds like the mall store selection doesn't have what you're looking for. I would highly recommend ordering something online instead. The people here would be happy to help! Most of the preferred vendors have excellent return policies, so you could definitely still get 2-4 and let her pick her favorite
