I''m trying to buy a diamond white gold promise ring for my long time girlfriend on one of our upcoming anniversaries in a few months. My price range is anywhere up to $550...Can someone help me in explaining what i should look for, What type of rings are appropriate, How to buy the ring, and Where to buy it...I am totally lost...

I like this as a promise ring:

you won''t go wrong with tiffany''s

chase023 just purchased a .23ct diamond in a solitaire setting for his girlfriend and it was really pretty. You can do a search and look at all of his post plus there is a picture of the finished product. I tried to link it but couldn''t get it to work. I am sick today so not all here

I do like the Tiffany ring idea but the solitaire is more traditional. Well good luck!

the tiffany''s one is nice and affordable but i think she would want something with a bigger diamond...i love the signed pieces one but it is kind of expensive...thh Blue Nile one would be perfect but it''s way over my budget heh...i''ve about 5 months to think about this so i''m open to more suggestions...thanks for the suggestions people i really appreciate it!!!

Does it have to be a diamond? If not, what about this darling pink sapphire ring (white gold):

Natural Pink Sapphire Ring $550

Settings at Excel Diamonds start at $250, and they currently have 3 diamonds available for under $300, just barely under budget.

If you''re willing to stretch to $554, you can choose from 6 diamonds.

I always say go for a colored stone or unusual setting for a promise ring. That way she can still wear it without it being a mini-engagement ring. There's no mixed meanings if it's not a diamond. And, she could have QUITE a lovely ring to wear on her right hand after she gets the engagement ring.

ETA- stones to choose from would be her birthstone, your birthstone, the month of your anniversary stone, the intended month of marriage stone, or her favorite color. Then you can have a little speech worked up to tell her the meaning of the stone.

those look very nice, but they''re a bit over the top...and yeah that''s good idea but she really wants a diamond so that''s wat i''m gonna get her...basically wat i''m looking for is a good-looking diamond promise ring, that doesn''t look like an engagement ring, but still has a nice setting a good diamond for the price...

The one from Tiffany''s was a good one and something similar to this is also nice:

just a simple ring...
and i''m a new one at thsi so i don''t really know the ins and outs of buying a diamond or a ring...all help is greatly appreciated!!!

Thanks for all the feedback! I have about 5 months to find the perfect ring...so keep em coming! lol

Go to your local Kay Jewelers. Ask for what the sales associate will know as a past present future plus. They have a great ring that is 499.99. It is 1/2 ct tdw and has three prominent stones that are mounted in a tulip mounting with side stones. This ring is gorgeous! If you would like go to kay.com and look for three stone diamond rings. I got this ring for my mom for xmas last year and she loves it. Hope this helps and let me know if you do look at it online.

What about this?

Antique Style Ring
That one is so beautiful!

For antiquey diamond rings, I just love Circa 1930's.

RE: the Kay's suggestion... most people around here would urge you avoid mall jewelers for diamond/jewelry purchases in general, as their diamonds tend to be poorer quality than what you could purchase elsewhere for the same amount of money.

That's not to say that mall jewelers don't have their place... just that you should least check into your other options before settling on any chain jeweler, so you make sure you're getting the total worth out of your money (whatever that means to you).

It is under budget (though barely) for you, and is (IMO) not expensive for what it is

Do you have any more specific styles you want us to hunt for?

I think it''s important that a promise ring not look like an engagement ring or a wedding band--unless your gf is OK with that. Otherwise, she might find people asking her about her engagement

Of course, it''s entirely up to what works for the two of you. A three stone ring, with a colored stone in the center and diamonds as side stones could make a nice compromise. You could also consider a colored stone with a diamond pave'' halo. If you do want a diamond as a center stone, the antique rings that have been recommended are beautiful!!

Ditto. I complimented someone on her engagement ring (sure looked like one!) a few days ago and she corrected me quite indignantly: "Oh no, it's a promise ring. I am NOT engaged!" It was weird.

If you don't want people thinking you're engaged, don't buy something that looks like an engagement ring!

haha

Which leads us to another category... I had a friend in college who was pushing for her boyfriend to buy her a specifically diamond promise ring, so that she could pretend it was an engagement ring under certain circumstances! haha. Silly girls!

haha this is true...it is in my budget, but i don''t wanna spend that much if i can find a good ring for less you know? all i want is an affordable simple promise ring, that doesn''t look like an engagement ring but has a diamond as the center piece, she likes three stone rings and simple rings like the tiffany''s one...when it comes down to it, i jus want a good quality promise ring for up to $550...if it looks good and is good quality i''ll get it...

I REALLY REALLY appreciate all the help i''m getting here btw...those antique stones are really great...but still a lil over the top and too engagement-looking for my taste...jus a simple ring wit a good quality diamond is all i''m looking for...this will most likely be more of a right hand ring too...but it depends on what she thinks of it

I think we're trying to steer you away from the "simple ring with a good quality diamond" because that, IMO, would look the MOST like an engagement ring. My engagement ring is a simple platinum solitaire with one well-cut diamond. We know engagement rings around here, and if you don't want it to look like an e-ring, I'd suggest going a route other than a simple ring with one nice diamond in it.

If you still want to go the one diamond in a nice ring route, my suggestion would be to contact one of the PS vendors and have a replica of the Tiffany you like (mentioned earlier in this thread) made. All you would really need would be a ~4mm white gold band with a ~.10ct melee stone burnished in. Whiteflash has WG bands starting at $97, and I bet they'd help you get a small diamond put into the middle of one. Another idea might be to have as many small diamonds burnished into the band as years you've been together. That'd be very sweet and personal.

Good luck, and let us know what you decide!

You might also check overstock.com for rings. The diamonds won''t be H&A quality, but I know of a few PS members who have purchased right hand rings from the site and have been very happy with the sparkle. They have a 30 day return policy as well, in case you don''t like the product.

Did you look at the plain platinum Elsa Peretti band with the small diamond in it at Tiffany''s? To me, it''s the perfect ring for what you''re looking for. Demure, obviously not an ering, but something special that actually could double as a wedding band one day.

I too think that you''re going to have trouble staying in budget and getting a solitaire that is big enough for you and high enough quality for you - which will look like an engagement ring. The Tiffany piece is very pretty and I believe comes in several different stones if you changed your mind and wanted a sapphire or emerald.

I looked around a bit on a few of the PS jewellers websites and couldn''t find a simple solitaire that seemed appropriate.

I''d go with the Tiffany ring or the Signed Pieces ring.

A simple solitaire setting with a diamond is the classic engagement ring and it''s definitely going to be perceived as an engagement ring, even if it is a smaller diamond.
