I got a ring that i was very happy with from bluenile. An AGS ideal cut vvs1 F 1.06 round ($9200). The setting I also got from BN is platinum with two vertical pronged baguettes (total 1/2 carat) on each side of the round diamond ($1900). An independent appraisal was well above what i got it for so everything was greatand she said yes!

PROBLEM is my fiancee has a 2 3/4 ring size and i got the ring sized at 5 1/4 (measured wrong ring she had). I sent it back to get resized and was worried about the big reduction and the extremely small size they would have to make it. Bluenile said not to worry - some input had told me to worry (i wanted to ask jeweler questions). When it came back the ring which previously flowed from baguettes to round diamond back to baguettes now has small gaps/spaces on each side of the round diamond. It is as if the baguettes are now flaring out at a wider angle away from the center diamond creating a space. The space is not even the same on each side? Needless to say I was VERY upset. All bluenile said was to return it again. They said we will have a conference call with their jewerly and a manager.
I have been to a few local jewelers in the wash dc area and they have recommended things like an oval cut or flat backing? to preserve the viewable harmony or the ring while reducing the ring size. ANY input on this subject would be appreciated. I have lots of options. I may still keep the diamond and return the setting. I was afraid to let outside jewelers (not bluenile) adjust it because then i''m stuck. Please help. thanks it advance

Your right in letting BN finish what they started , they will make good.

Dont get too excited about your appraisal, its retail replacement not fair market value (real world price). If you sold the ring today you would not get anywere close to that appraisal price. If you look here on pricescope you will see you overpaid for the ring ,but not as bad as if you would have bought it from a local mall. Sorry about being straight forward here, just telling you like it is.

No sensble jeweler will accept to size so much down and tell you "not to worry". That was a customer representative talking, not the guy at the bench. Well, bluenile will have to make a new setting (I have never heard of standard settings made for this size). Another option: get your stones, a refund for the damaged setting and get a simple setting made by a jeweler who does not employ pre-made parts (these is your enemy) such as jewelryexpert.com. This may even be convenient price-wise. One thing I can guarantee: I could not buy one decent ring for my size 3 in years and all of mine are custom made. After quite a few surprises, I gave up even asking for pre-made settings and rings...
