So after all the back and forth with my aunt about the dress for my cousin we were thinking instead of having one made (since she doesnt want to deal with a seamstress) I would just take my cousin shopping when I"m down in LA this summer for a dress. Either that OR I could have a seamstress up my way make a dress with her measurements. I'm not sure which is the best option yet (help?).

Anyways we wanted to somewhat match the bridesmaid dress style but not exactly, we had found a dress that had a shirred top with straps but it was too pricey. Watters has some jr dresses that look good but they are very particular color-wise.

Here's a link to my bridesmaid dresses:
http://siriinc.com/br-9449.html
(look how much prettier this dress looks in blue rather than that harsh brownish color http://siriinc.com/br-9490.html, we're not doing long though)

They'll be Shantung Silk in Watermelon with a Magenta Sash. (FYI, the color swatches on the website do not reflect how gorgeous the actual fabric colors are. They look bizzare on there. The actual watermelon is actually a paler prettier pink color, not that darkish color. The actual magenta is very vibrant: http://siriinc.com/br-5958.html for example.. it actually looks darker in person even)

So I could do a white dress and buy a sash from Siri in watermelon or magenta to tie around her dress rather than match the exact colors of watermelon or Magenta. Or I could try to find a dress that has a complementary colored sash and not worry about buying the sash from Siri. We think we want to do white and make her a flower maiden instead of a jr bridesmaid so we dont have to deal with the headache of finding a matching dress. Siri fabric is too pricey to make a new dress from.

Does anyone have any suggestions of what I could do here? Where I could buy from? I don't want to spend over 200 dollars, that's way too much. Also the guys ties are going to be made in Magenta to match the sashes of the girls. My 'man of honor' I was thinking could have a tie in watermelon to match the girls, then maybe the flower maiden would have a sash in watermelon as well? Thoughts? My cousin will be 10yo next year but she's asian and tiny. So she's about a size 8-10 tops.

How old is the flower maiden going to be? www.petiteparfait.ca has dresses made with silk dupioni which is similar to shantung. They also will send you swatches to make sure the colors are a good match. Some of the prices are a little high but if she is younger then they have a couple of styles that aren''t too pricey. Strasburg also has some cute dresses. I am using a simple white cotton slip dress from there thats very reasonable and you could always add the matching sash.

She''s going to be 10 years old so more of a flower maiden/jr bridesmaid.

How much is the slip dress that you''re buying going to cost? Do you have a link?

Thanks!

So many of those dresses are super cute. The only one I don''t think is becoming for a 10 year old is the straight one. I think young girls look nice with a little poof. But any of those would be darling. I don''t think you need to match anything with a flower girl.

Jr.BM''s are a tough situation as far as keeping with the styles of your BM''s and flower girls as well as finding something in the right size or having it made for a reasonable amount of money. I went through this same situation when I got married and my MIL recruited my two nieces to be Jr. BM''s for us (whole other issue in itself, lol). My girls were 10 and 12 at the time, they were out of regular girls'' sizes but not into jr. or missy sizes yet, so we had to have a seamstress make their dresses. Jim Hjelm will make dresses but they were way too expensive (I think we were quoted over $300 for each dress, yikes!). Anyway I ended up finding a gal who custom made dresses and we worked with her. After all was said and done, the parents still ended up paying $250 for each dress. It had come down to the final weeks before the wedding, though (we planned ours in less than 9 months), so if you have plenty of time to look and come up with something you might be able to find someone who''ll make a dress for less than $200. Best of luck to you!!! I know exactly what you''re going through!

A ten-year-old isn''t really a pre-teen yet. You might consider something between the poofy-skirt flower girl style and the pre-teen look of the Watters dress, which is designed for *some budding development*....

Perhaps something like these Davids Bridal dresses?

But... since you''re going the opportunity to go shopping with her, it ewould be nice to get her input! (especially since it sounds as if her parents don''t donsider it important to indulge her girly insticts). It might be a good idea to order a sash in either the watermelon or the fuschia fabric.

The dress is $40 I think but only goes up to size 8. Here''s the link to the site though... they have lots of dresses so maybe one would work!

Okay so poofy is out... and this style here: http://watters.com/product.php?style=45924 is too grown up for a ten year old?

I was thinking of having the dress made but I''m paying for the dress so I''m going to take the cheapest option I can get. It''s not likely my aunt will pay for it. She believes that anything over 30-40 bucks is too much. Their offer is to rent a 30 dollar dress or else I''m on my own basically. Trust me I''m not stoked about it. I understand the idea about a little girl outgrowing a dress particularly a pricey one but it makes it very hard for me to have to worry about dressing both of their children and paying for all of it. It''s pretty hard on the wedding budget.

The slip dresses are definitely afforadable! They may be too small for her though by next year.

It would be nice if she could somewhat match though in some sort of silk type fabric.

I think the watters dress would work well for a 10 year old!
