need ideas for setting amethyst stones

Hello all!

For my last birthday in September (yikes - it''s been a while

) my mom bought me a pair of amethyst rectangular studs in YG. While they are pretty, I don''t care for YG and the size and shape of them make them hard to wear - they are too big to be studs on me, i think. Plus, they kind of turn around while i am wearing them b/c of the shape of them. I would like to have them reset into something else, but am having trouble coming up with ideas for something i''ll love. Amethyst is not one of my favorite stones at all, but i really don''t want to take them back because my mom''s feelings will be hurt if i do. i didn''t know if they would look nice in more of a dangly setting, or possibly paired with another color stone?

Attached is a picture - these ARE NOT my earrings, but they look just about the same. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated from you all - thanks!

I had a pair of similarly shaped garnet earrings that I had the jeweler turn into charms and I now wear them on my hoop earrings. He just added a plain gold jump ring to the top and got rid of the post.

Rectangular stones as earrings will spin. Have the local jeweller chop off the posts and add a jump loop, then put them in leverbacks. Low cost and easier to wear earrings.
