Need Prong Advice for my White Zircon cushion cut

Hello All!

I just acquired this 8.05 ct white zircon cushion cut from Alex Weber at Premier Gemstones.

I would like to do simple two-tone setting with a skinny band. This is my first unset cushion cut gem. Any advice? I am just wondering if I should do double prongs or more than 4 prongs because zircon rates 7.5 on the mohs scale?

Thoughts appreciated!

I have double claw for my emerald cut to protect the corners and I love that look.

How about semi bezel in the 4 corners for added protection?

They can be made to fit rounded corners as far as I am aware, otherwise, it would mean cushions cannot be fully bezel set!

Zircon is still a fairly brittle gem and highly prone to facet abrasions, so be careful who sets the stone and how it’s set.

Daniel M is a master - skinny & double prongs. He set my amethyst for me & though we opted to stay all in yellow gold for this stone, it was based on a blue topaz he set for @GliderPoss which WAS 2 tone & stunning. Can't find a pic so tagging her.

@Alex T Daniel M is lightning fast. I contacted him late Tuesday night and he had drawings for me yesterday evening!

Shank is 2mm wide from memory, don’t have it with me at the moment to check.
