Need quick thoughts on 3.1 carat Old Mine

My partner and i weren't in the market immediately but were planning to get an engagement ring in the next few months to a year. Obviously with antiques, we don't always get to choose timing. Someone recently posted a beautiful 3.1 GIA J/VS1 OMB to Preloved and we're going to go see it in person today. It is way out of the budget we had originally discussed but not out of the realm of possibility of what we could buy if it's truly perfect. The original ideal goal was ~2.5 carats, cushion-y old mine, in the I/J/K color range, to be set in an Erika Winters Willa or Grace Cathedral. If I source a stone myself, I would need to find a vendor who would arrange to do this with an outside stone or work with Erika Winters directly. She didn't respond to a prior email about resizing but I'm waiting to hear about this.

The original loose budget was ~$20k-$25k including the setting.

Nope, and I'm actually hoping you'll have your Georgiana before I have mine! But again, the wait is my fault.

My surprise gift was a bivy suit because apparently I've complained too much about being cold when we go winter camping. Not quite as glamorous!

Braces off in May I think, so we can all start the countdown for me then! And I can't wait to see yours, my fingers are so crossed for you that it all goes smoothly!

My father unfortunately is very sick with newly-diagnosed but quite advanced cancer, so I've been away from home to be with him and also help with navigating the medical process. I just got back and Georgiana is not yet off to get her final dress so I've been wearing her a bit around the house again as some comfort. I thought you all might enjoy seeing her!

Part of the surprise! If I told him I really made up my mind, of course he would go with that, but I haven't and I figure he should get some say in the situation. Not much, lol! But he's choosing between the Grace Cathedral and the Willa (and I told him I wouldn't say no to a French cut Minna but obviously that costs a fortune and we already blew the budget and beyond with the diamond!). He favors the Grace so I'm assuming it will be that. Metal will be two tone rose + platinum versus all rose versus platinum. And then things like how much pave on the band (shoulders versus 3/4 pave), the band shape below the pave (Erika Winters lets you choose square with milgrain versus knife edge versus rounded and again I don't really have a preference). So basically the whole dress is a guided surprise, which I think will be fun, especially give how long I've been playing around with the diamond.

I also need to decide what I'm going to get him for a wedding watch.....He'll be (jokingly) mad but I think actually appreciative of me giving him something nice. Mine wears his Garmin all of the time too and I didn't even get it for him!

I think it'll be something reasonably casual/low-key but special, like one of the Grand Seikos or similar. But I also think my partner would enjoy just owning something nice, the same way we can enjoy jewelry that isn't actually reasonable for daily wear.
