Beautomous! I would love to own an OMC this size one day to appreciate the facing like this. It’s such a treasure!
I love all the pictures! They are better than the vendor’s - the stone looks way whiter in your pics and vids. I think you cannot go wrong with platinum in terms of metal.
Thud! Beautiful! This definitely made me go give Victoria a good scrub....she was looking a little dirty from horse Kisses (cookie gobbling). Your beauty has amazing faceting. So happy you snatched her up!
Wow!! Everyone's said everything for me. Your diamond is really rare, one of a kind. I love the shape, She looks incredibly lively, and white!
I think she’d look fantastic in platinum. This might have the effect of making the stone whiter. Also I love the idea of a rose gold shank plus platinum basket, looks great with the color of the stone. This might have the effect of making the diamond appear a little warmer. Maybe your choice will depend on what color metal you want to stack with her.
This is an amazing diamond! Thank you so much for sharing all the photos, and writing about your decision making process. It’s very informative. I’m so happy for you!
Absolutely stunning stone! Congratulations!! I agree with others that it faces up so much whiter in your pics and could easily be set entirely in platinum.
My vote is for a full platinum ring, the reason being that I find the white metals (platinum, WG) to be the most “neutral”, and for an engagement ring I would want something as neutral as possible so that it would complement/match with all my clothes and other bling. For eg I frequently mix RG and WG; or WG and YG; but rarely would I mix RG and YG. So to me personally, it would be better to get a plat/WG ering else I’d rarely wear my RG jewellery.
Georgiana is so so lovely! I’m team platinum. All one metal just seems more regal and sculptural to me. I think you can easily mix other metals into your stack…
All platinum is indeed the more timeless look. Though I am partial to the two tone look for staple pieces so they play well with metals of all colors. Like my engagement ring and my to-be five stone, which are rings I plan to always wear, are platinum baskets and 18k gold. But my star sapphire ring is all gold and I would have platinum rings as well in my broader collection.
I do like platinum a lot and I am still contemplating it on and off for my five stone. Classic. Always in style.
Wow the stone is looking so beautiful! So happy you found your dream stone! I should really get one of those ASET tools too like you suggested, looks awesome!
As for metal, I think if you really like rose gold, you should go for the two-tone!
I'm also on team two-tone, I think your stunning stone suits platinum the best, and I just love the rose gold on your lovely skin tone!
I also vote for an all-platinum ER. My favorite stack look is a platinum engagement ring, a platinum diamond band, and a high-carat plain yellow or rose gold wedding band in between those two rings —just like how Erstwhile Jewelry does it on their instagram
Thank you @newtojewels for starting this thread. It has been so much fun to see your excitement and be included in your journey to finding your perfect stone. I’m so happy for you.
I’m team two tone. That rose gold band on the ring will look gorgeous against your skin tone and the platinum head and prongs will be beautiful against your stone.
I asked Alara for photos of their two-tone rose gold and platinum Margot pear stacked with both platinum and rose gold. I don't see myself doing a two-tone stack for everyday unless it has two bands instead of just one. That doesn't mean rose gold is out of the running! It just means I would do a matchy-matchy stack instead of a mismatched band to start with. As mentioned above, because I'm torn on metal color and people here are saying both, I think I'm going back to letting my partner decide in talking to Alara and Erika Winters. There will also be the decision on which setting, though I think it will be the Grace cathedral for girdle protection since the Willa is functionally only 4 prongs.
So the plan is for me to have a little longer to just admire the stone while we wait for insurance to kick in, then off she goes for her setting and then into hiding. I have braces on and, as silly as it sounds, I want them off before getting engaged because I know I'll be grinning like crazy in every photo and I want my teeth to be straight with no metal mouth! I don't really mind being in my 30's with braces but I don't want that recorded for all time
Here are the photos Alara sent me of their two-tone ring. Thanks again everyone for all of the kind words and for weighing in!
Love the setting choice! The diamond is absolutely STUNNING! I am so incredibly exited for you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! When you find it you just know and you feel at peace... at least thats how I felt. Like, I bought a bunch more (lab) diamonds while mine was being made (an honestly even when I first had it) and now I am just selling everything because i am truly in love and at peace with my ring, I hope for the same feeling for you!! Enjoy this time and excitement, i hope the "in love" feeling will last forever for you!!
Love the two tone setting paired with a band the same color as the shank on the ering.
And I feel very vindicated regarding the color I knew there was something weird in those first images as my experience is that J is very white indeed.
Love the pictures and videos. Two-toned has that extra punch of special subtle uniqueness that I think suits you, and you really pull off the rose gold like no other. Another consideration on the band would be if you want it to be matchy/complimentary with your fiance's wedding band. Some people may want that, but it's all personal preference.
Thank you!
I feel like he'll probably end up with silicone or titanium, he's hard on his hands and goes rock climbing regularly. I made him a little turquoise and silver beaded bracelet a couple of months ago and just realized that the beads are nowhere close to round anymore
I love the idea of giving him one of the 20k California gold bands for him to wear occasionally, though. https://brackenjewelers.com/rare-collections/california-gold-wedding-bands
Good news, I still like her!
Two videos with all of my diamond jewelry today:
Maybe it's because I'm blonde and my phone camera lens is dark but I never see as much contrast and darkness as I do in these photos and videos. But I definitely see the big facets turning on and off like in the videos, which is just so fun to watch!
What a collection!
You may want to google the dangers of a titanium band, especially if he's a rock climber. Titanium seems to be particularly dangerous to hands that have swollen, and emergency personnel sometimes can't remove them.TI feel like he'll probably end up with silicone or titanium, he's hard on his hands and goes rock climbing regularly.
