I have been on the hunt for a blue sapphire since my husband said he'd like to get me one for my birthday, which we have blown past. I ordered 2 from Tim at Inorogems and kept one, but the cushion that I had a setting dreamt up for just wasn't enough presence for me.

I had been watching this absolutely imperfect, included, not precision cut, heated (gasp) stone from Ivy and Rose and finally took the leap. I had to see her and despite her flaws I am smitten. Husband thinks she is way too big but details right? She is a touch darker than the other two stones I had looked at and I realized I was not going to be able to go with a bezel setting. So at square one.

Does having white sparkly diamonds help the center stone color?

The shape lends itself to some art deco sensibilities but I don't think step cut sides will do me any favors. Should I look at non step cut side stones? Or perhaps a blazing halo? Would a thinner halo be more fitting? Totally lost here but I wanna set her so I can wear her!

5.34ct radiant cut
9.98 x 9.04
Dark blue but not as dark as the photos came out. I cannot for the life of me capture what I actually see.

poor excuse for bezel testing but three different lighting angles with and without the very professional foil bezel.

Step cuts weren't doing it for me.

Even though you feel step cuts will not suite the sapphire, I think baguettes will complement it beautifully.

Oh I have ideas. :)
Will be back later today.
don’t hate me for including baguette ideas.

I love the look of this stone on your hand. Im really glad you love it too!

The sun came out!

I know you had your heart set on a setting, but...

I do think it would like excellent with a baguette halo.

example idea:

A more delicate halo, that follows the stone shape, Maytal Hannah-esque, would be pretty, but more modern. I do think a halo would be pretty and make the blue pop even more.

This would be really pretty, but expensive.

This would be a place where lab grown, custom cut, if you are open to it, would save money with someone like DK.

Something like this, with a smaller halo, less metal on the halo, so more refined would be pretty too.

or something like this:

I'll stop, in case you hate them all.

It's not too big! I love the shape! I also love everyone's ideas; it's going to be tough to choose :)

Ok, ok, ok I see where this is going. I guess it does sort of lend itself to a straight baguette somewhere.

@elizat the one with the tab prongs has me intrigued. I am quite prong-phobic after my last few experiences so that may be the ticket. And they didn't look too bulky with a delicate halo.

I did find one cut that thread the needle between sparkle and classic appeal-. You have to excuse the fact I couldn't get a straight photo and used doubled sided tape which created its own nightmare, sigh

But me thinks French cuts are not in the fiscal cards.

That is the right photo. The FCs are spinel. 3mm I think. I have 2 FC diamonds but they are bitty and only 2.

I’m not going to tell you to use step cuts if you don’t want to lol.
I like this simple geometric design that uses melee.

Agree with this ^

In fact, I only see it with single N/S side baguettes that are the same height as the long "edge" of the center stone up to the cut corners. I would not go smaller and would not go bigger. Width of the side stones is not that critical, imo. (Unless you hate hate hate Art Deco for some reason -- but I have never met anyone who said that.)

Oh, I guess maybe you want more of a solitaire vibe than a three-stone vibe -- but those little ones you are showing pretty much mimic baguettes (i.e., on the left side of the center stone).

No way that stone is "too big" -- I think it's a great size. And I think it is fine to compromise on clarity to get the size, silhouette, and hue you want. (That's what I am trying to do and some part of the budget has to give.)

No, I love art deco hence my delimma. I already have a ring with traps and bullets (see 1st post) and perhaps it was the setting but the step cuts didn't really do much in terms of light play. Which is fine on the spinel but maybe something different for the sapphire.

I definitely want either side stones OR a halo just totally conflicted on which. Because again I'm a size whore and more is more in my book.

Here is the stone with my ER. I guess a nice clipped corner halo wouldn't be too matchy but still cohesive.

I know you’ve spoken to Elle @TGP about this design of hers as something you really love and want.
heres an idea what it might maybe possibly look like to your shape centerstone.
of course she’d tweak it much much more beautifully-ier.

Knowing how much you love this setting, and especially since Elle is getting back into the jewelry business game again -
going to TGP for The Feuilles Dorees gets my vote over the others.

I see. You are way ahead of me! (I should just be working.)

I like 2, 3, 5, and 6! can't go wrong with any of those, imo.

@Rfisher you have outdone yourself! Wow! I couldn't quite picture the stone in the original setting but now! I was figuring I'd need to find another oval stone (green maybe) to scratch that itch but perhaps not.

And I also love the baguettes on the sides. So many great examples.

I popped into a local jewelery store to see if they had any side stones to look see but she only had finished rings. She did have a massive sapphire in a halo of custom rose cut diamonds in D VS1. Under 50k, total bargain, sigh.

This is going to be so hard to decide.
