Never thought I’d buy an amethyst but I did!

So hard to decide whether to go white gold or rose gold. I mostly have white and yellow gold. I only have one ring with mixed white, yellow with a rose gold shank. I do like it but not sure which direction I want to go with this ring. I’d like to keep it as simple setting as much as possible to keep the cost down.

For this setting with 2.2mm diamonds on each side, thanks to @AnastasiaBeaverhausen for the photo, I’m quoted $495 in either white or rose gold in14k 8B1274D1-E122-41B0-AFD2-2BFB7AAEEE1D.jpeg

I also like this setting
without the diamonds in the shank and asked if the halo can be done in white zircon or any white gems instead of diamonds to keep cost down. I also asked if the above setting can be done with any other white gems instead of diamonds to keep cost down. I’m waiting to hear for a quote for this one.

Would love everyone’s thoughts.
Thank you!!

Ooo, if going with option #1, I think having at least the head be RG would help deepen the color of the amy?

With #2, I vaguely remember natural diamonds didn't cost too much more than other stones bc most of the cost was for labor to set thr melee. And your amy is 9mm you said? How do you think the halo would fit on you? Would you prefer the additional finger coverage?

@Dmndsr4evr11 I like the first one, allowing the Amy to take center stage and not competing with the precision cut. Maybe some moissy or zircon for side stones?

Thank you, @Mrs_Strizzle. I was told by the setter that moissy would be more durable than zircon. I’ll ask what the price difference is between Moissy and diamonds. I don’t know anything about zircons or moissy. Only have read about them here on PS. Thanks again.

Thanks for the info. The halo would definitely have a presence with finger coverage. Do you feel it would be overwhelming?

For this stone, I think RG will definitely enhance the color and bring out the subtle shade. And you mentioned you don’t have any RG rings so that makes it special for you!

Idk if I'd call it "overwhelming." It really depends on your finger size as well as lifestyle. I know that I have a 6x9mm stone that's halo'ed. That's probably the biggest size I'd wanna wear before I'd start to feel like the ring would get in the way of everything.

Thanks! I think I’m sticking to the original setting you proposed. The one with 2 small side stones. My finger size is between 4- 4.25. My ER ring and bands are 4.5 and spin a lot during the winter months so I’m asking DanielM to make this ring a 4.25. Thanks so much!!

It's gonna look great!

How do you find the proportion of the diamond compared to your center stone? The inspiration picture had a smaller stone than yours. Do you think you might like to have 3 small diamonds on each side forming the shape of a bigger triangle?

Thanks, @peacechick . I think it’s a little small now that I look at it more. I think I want to stick with only one stone on each side. How about trapezoids? Like this one.

Looks good! The bigger the diamond sides, the higher the cost though. Melee are a few dollars each. A pair of diamond traps will be a few hundred (but less than $500 I think). Maybe check with Daniel.

While you’re at it, are you happy with the prongs? Imo these ones look quite nice but your inspo pic had tab prongs and the one you just linked had double sharp claws.

I personally like tab prongs. This is my mint garnet.

Gah I'm so sorry I can't find the listing again for the inspiration pic. But I think if you want a more similar proportion, maybe go up to 3-4.5mm round sides? That'll be easier to find than fancy cuts, and likely cheaper too. But the traps on the sides do look really good!

Thanks, @peacechick. Nice mint garnet! I’m waiting for his quote. I’ll also ask for comparison pricing with larger rounds as @AnastasiaBeaverhausen has suggested. I personally like delicate claw prongs although the tab prongs probably provide more protection. I asked him maybe do tab prongs but make it delicate looking so as not to look bulky. I sent the double claw prong pics to him after he sent me the CAD. I just asked him about delicate tab prongs.

@peacechick, after seeing Caolsen’s beautiful pear diamond with 2 small side stones, granted they are bezeled, I think the small side diamonds will be ok if bigger ones would cost way much more than what I would want to spend. Of course, hers is from DK and is so beautiful. I’m still waiting for Dan for an updated quote.

The IG seller DesertRose posted some very beautiful trap pairs today. Maybe you can contact her to ask about them. I know many PSers have had pleasant experiences with her,
