In my quest to finish ALL my settings this year, I had 2 x .68ct round brilliant diamonds left over. They're G and H, both SI1, both Blue Nile Astor ideals. Gorgeous diamonds and a perfect match (originally bought as earrings).

I have nothing yellow in my jewelry box and have been thinking about something along these lines for a while now. yellow is my husband's favorite color, and sapphire is his birthstone, so this seemed like too good an opportunity to pass up.

The three stones together will be in a platinum 3-stone setting, with a 22kt yellow gold basket for the sapphire.

The sapphire is only on lay-away for the moment - I have multiple projects on the boil right now, and I want to clear the line-up before bringing this one into the fold. :)

Wow that's an amazing color! Looking forward to seeing this!

What a gorgeous yellow! Looking forward to see it set. Great choice!!!
Love your plans for the setting.

Hi,

That is one gorgeous color. Its going to be a beautiful ring.

Annette

You are certainly getting a lot done this year. I love the color on that yellow sapphire. It’s going to make a beautiful center to a three stone ring.

Hi! It’s a lovely yellow sapphire. My two cents on the setting. I would be careful to not mount it in a wedding/engagement ring type setting unless that is the look you are going after.

I had a yellow sapphire once. It was 4.5ct which I wore on my right hand and wore my engagement ring on my left hand. There was no way you could mistake it for an engagement ring (at least I did not think so). However, nearly half the people who commented on it asked me if it was a yellow diamond and that it looks like one or is a great idea for a yellow diamond substitute. For some reason, that last comment really annoyed me in that I was trying to imitate a yellow diamond which I do not like to pass off and imitate anything. Hence I sold the ring (not to mention I did not like the yellow on me so that was a Second good reason to get rid of it).

If you are using it as engagement ring or trying to produce the look of a yellow diamond, ok. But if not, I would just be a bit cautious on the mounting. To me, 3-stone mounting says engagement ring especially for that size yellow sapphire which could pass as a 1ct diamond. If you plan to wear it on your right hand, may I suggest looking at more a right hand ring / cocktail mounting. These are just my thoughts I want to share. I know everyone has different preferences.

I hope this helps. Good luck to you!

Beautiful! Can't wait to see it set. Welcome to the land of yellow!

How about this one?
First, I have to mention I like what some may perceive as tacky and bold rings, so this maybe a bit too flashy/tacky for you.

This ring below in the link is a yellow radiant diamond. They can change it to work with a round yellow sapphire but you can get the idea of the look. I love this mounting, and I have a loose emerald that I plan to have JB Star create in this mounting. JB Star will custom create for you, but they also sell some semi-mounts.

I thought I would share this in case either of you might like it, or maybe not. Just to have an idea of mountings.

That sapphire is such a vibrant yellow! Your ring will be lovely!

Beautiful sapphire, love the color! Can’t wait to see it set!

Thanks @meely, @Acinom, @smitcompton, @elle_71125, @Miki Moto, @Catmom, @Bron357, @chatoyancy and @alene :wavey:

Since i only wear rings on my ring finger of my left hand, it's not a problem if it's engagement-ish looking. Or not. Either way, I'm not fussed. I want this specific style of piece, and the proportions between the three stones are more important to me.

I'll love having a yellow stone - it's a beautiful vibrant color with a hint of orange, and I've waned something like this for a long time. I'm hoping it will be as awesome in real life as it is in my head! :))

I am sure it will be gorgeous. The color is amazing!

Gorgeous yellow sapphire, the colour is so vibrant. I can’t wait to see the final products, it’s going to be spectacular like all your pieces!

I wear my rings on my left hand ring finger too. :wavey: I think it’s going to look great!
I’m impressed with your patience at not seeing the sapphire. Are you planning on seeing it in person before you send it to DK or will it be a total surprise?

It will be a complete surprise! :)

In the first email I received from Jeff, when I first asked about the stone, he said that this was his favorite yellow sapphire he had cut in the last year or two. Well that was good enough for me!

I was in DKJ yesterday and had a good chat with David and Amy about what I wanted - so it's just a case of waiting now. I think my mail delivery should be pretty exciting over the next few weeks!!

Mrs B -I have a garnet to set. Do you find that DKJ is reasonably priced? And I'm sure you're pleased with his work?

Thanks @Sparkles88 - I really hope so!

Hi @Queenie60 - I think DKJ is very reasonably priced. But their prices have gone up considerably recently, given that they are now employing some absolutely top flight bench people - especially micro-pave setters. I think their pave, at this point, is as good as VC's, so if pave is what you're thinking, DKJ is a very good choice. Amy Phillips is an excellent designer, and DKJ's prong work and bezel settings are also gorgeous. They have a wonderful engraver, also. So all up, I'd say they're an excellent choice, and given that their prices - even having gone up - are still competitive, they're definitely the way I'd go.

They do all my pieces, in fact, and I've never been disappointed.
