Tonight I received this aquamarine brooch as a surprise! I saw it at a gem show this past weekend and loved the balance between free form organic, and symetry, and uniqueness. It is completely hand made, the crystal hand carved from a crystal which they had. The jeweler couple completely hand makes everything. They have a pair of moonstone and sapphire earrings which they made which are next on my list, which would go with my very nicely with my moonstone bracelet. As another coincidence, one of the women at the booth, who was helping the couple with the show happened to be the daughter of the creator/carver of my horse aqua pendant. She was delighted to see it again! She told me that she has a small box of pieces left over from her dad, which I can see when she gets down to Tucson in the Winter. She has become a reputable jeweler in her own right. Really, really happy about that.

Anyway, I love the tactile quality of the brooch, the hand made look, and how directional it is. I have so many Tops which I could wear this with. My pictures are terrible because it’s night time...but here is a seller’s picture. I will post more color accurate modeling shots tomorrow. It is a lovely, clear blue and a nice, puffy size. My son told me that it reminds him of a jelly fish washed up on the beach, and therefore, since my large star sapphire ring is named ‘Moonlight Jelly’, after its Jelly like appearance, this one is ‘Sunlight Jelly’.

It’s interesting how one comes back to the same stones again and again in life most unexpectedly ..one of those for me seems to be aquamarine.

I agree you have a lovely cosmic connection to aquamarine and also the artists who work with it! The brooch is beautiful and how exciting that you will be able to look at and possibly bring into your collection a companion to your horse carving.

Thank you, @2Neezers ! It’s strange, I’ve recieved aqua before, but the fact that it’s a brooch makes it especially fun. I have to experiment with how to start wearing them.

That is a work of art!!!! The aqua, the leaves, the details....just wow. I don't even know what to say about it, other than I would love more pics of you wearing it!

Thank you, @peacechick ! You are right, I’ve really been drawn to carved pieces of aqua especially. With aqua, I have never set out to find them but somehow I end up with them. I was at the show looking for black opal, and had already started negotiating on one at Opalauctions. I guess that will wait a little while. It’s easy for me to get distracted, plus my husband was inspired by the aqua.

They did have a piece of included quartz from the same carver, which really looked like a bouquet of dried flowers. I thought that it was pressed flowers set in crystal. It was beautifully set and I wish I had taken a picture to show. I’ve always hoped that maybe I could find other pieces from him that would tie into what I’ve got. But in likelihood, since she only has a small amount, I will probably find other things which while lovely, don’t tie in. It was a wonderful coincidence though.

Awe, thank you so much, @mellowyellowgirl ! I’ll take some better pics today wearing it!

I love this brooch. It's ethereal and elegant and out of this world beautiful. And that color is dreamy. Like the color of the ocean in the Caribbean on a beautiful warm day.

And I love its name. Perfect.

Thank you, @missy ! I have a soft spot for artists who hand make things because they add so much to the world. You can feel the intention and the spirit in the pieces which they make.
Brooches are totally new for me. I have some which I’ve gotten to wear as pendants, and I feel that they wouldn’t work well as brooches. But this one wouldn’t work as well as a pendant. I keep thinking about how Coco Chanel loved brooches as her favorite pieces of jewelry because you can put them anywhere...on your shoulder, a belt, a hat, a lapel, heck, even a shoe!. I’m thinking about how to wear it as a brooch, it makes me pay much more attention to clothing. It’s like getting ones ear’s pierced for the first time and being suddenly open to the world of earring possibilities!

Agree completely.

I enjoy wearing some of my pieces on my jackets because generally when we are wearing jackets/coats we don't get to see or enjoy the bling underneath while out and about. This way you can show it off and enjoy it while you are outside in the colder weather. Just make sure it is securely attached to the jacket. I usually attach it to the collar of the jacket.

Enjoy figuring out all the possibilities and enjoy wearing your new beautiful masterpiece.

How lovely! I love the carving and am so happy to see the brooch coming back!

HI:

Whoa! Gorgeous design! I could see this on a sweater....coat lapel...on a hairband...on a wrist....on a black velvet choker.....and décolletage. Versatile!

cheers--Sharon
