I've been searching online today, reading up on Aquamarines, and cleaning solutions in particular. Anyway, I found two different sites that said it's best to store Aqua in a dark environment, that light/sunlight can lighten the stone. I'd never heard that before. Anybody else?

Also, I did a search on here and didn't have anything come up for Blitz Gem and Jewelry Cleaner. Anyone familiar with that?

I''d heard about the lightening in sunlight thing before.

I don''t own any aquas so I can''t comment from experience.

Thanks Pandora. Glad I've possibly done what I was supposed to for the last 32 years, even though I didn't know it!

I wonder why they would lighten, interesting.

Well, my "guess" is, that sunlight would have sort of a bleaching/fading affect. Just like it will with rugs, papers, etc. But I never would have guessed it with a stone.

Same thing with a kunzite too

I think morganite that is irradiated to a blue color will fade but as far as I know aquamarines color is stable.

interesting.....well, they are chemical compositions and thus some more reactive than others, i guess.

The AGTA site lists aquamarine as a very stable gem and they are not one of the one''s that they have listed as fading in sunlight or heat. I don''t know who is right but I usually go by the AGTA charts.

Ellen, my jeweler relabels the Blitz gem & jewelry cleaner under his own label. I use it on almost all of my jewelry and have for years. I think it cleans well and I''ve had no problems using it.

I have heard that about aquas fading. Our Penny''s sells the Blitz jewelry cleaner.

Well, I''ll just keep it in the ring box and be on the safe side.

Michelle and marcy, thanks for the info on the cleaner!

Thanks everybody!

Have you ever read up on them? They are supposed to heal many ailments, among other things. If you haven''t, do a search. Interesting to read, even if it''s not true.
