My local jeweler was kind enough to humor me and did a CAD of my ring with a higher setting.. What do you think?

It's a personal choice but I like the new one sitting higher. It just looks more balanced.

I'm personally not a fan of higher cathedral style basket settings. That being said, you have a sapphire underneath it, so it doesn't look bad at all. But if you're worried about it catching, stick with the lower setting.

I like low setting, so guess where my vote goes? :))

I like the taller setting better. jmho... :appl:

Tall setting. Hands down. THe stone will look larger as well which is always a plus imo.

thanks everyone for your response. At first glance I prefer the higher setting but was very concerned that it would be too high. I never thought I would have any issues a higher setting but I tried on some Mark Schneider designs and while I like the look of his rings, they were set quite high for my taste. I was also concerned with a high setting snagging on to things or scratching my kids. But.. silly me, why didn't I think of this earlier, I measured the height of old ering and it's 6mm which is only 1mm less than the higher setting. I've never had any issues with it snagging or scratching so problem solved. I'm going for the higher setting. Trying on the wax model tomorrow :appl:

I really like it. I think it balances out the look of the ring nicely.

the higher one

I am SOOOO glad that you chose the higher one. I think it looks way better.

Beautiful ring

I also like the higher setting, it appears more to my eye. It looks like a beautiful ring, can't wait to see the finished product..

I typically like lower settings, that said- I REALLY like the newer higher version of your setting...as others have said, it just looks more balanced. I don't think that it will be to high, as it doesn't look abnormally high, it just looks a bit more exaggerated next to the lower one. My vote goes for the new setting; however you can't go wrong with either choice, both are lovely!!

Well I tried the wax today and I'm more determined I made the right choice. Despite being an orange wax to0 small to fit over my knuckle - it was beautiful and not too high. The jeweler was kind enough to give me some time alone and cope with my silly emotions - not to mention admire the piece. My only concern (if you can call it that) is that the stone is humongous! For a 1.3RB it covers almost all my finger. Jeweler says it will be ready in 7 days but DH wanted to pick it up and "surprise" me.. I just hope he doesn't make me wait any longer - I don't think I can stand it.

Love the higher one, to me it looks much more graceful and not as squat. Can't wait to see the real deal!

You will get used to the size of your new diamond really fast 8)

Trust me - 2 weeks after you get the ring, DSS will sink in and you'll laugh about thinking it was too big. I mean that in the nicest way possible.
