New Passport

I was hoping those ladies who were recently married might chime in on this post. So I''m in the process of the notorious name change. I''m actually optimistic that the SS office and DMV will be relatively painless. The one thing I''m a bit worried about is the process of changing my passport. I have printed out and completed the forms to change my passport, but I''m curious about how long it will take once I send them off. For those that have changed their passport, how long did it take for you to get a new one?

Oh and as a side note, I HATE my passport photo, I''m assuming I can send in a new one with the rest of my documentation. Has anybody done that?

I mailed mine off 1 week ago so let's see how long it takes. According to the website it says 6 -9 weeks (I think). I am curious too!!

this is rather timely, as I just got back from my 1st wedding anniversary trip to France, and used my NEW passport.

i filled out the paperwork, took my new pics and sent them off with the old passport & marriage license back in june (about 16 weeks out ''till the France trip). i cut it kinda close as i was well aware of the backlog in processing passports ''cause of the new law. well, luck was on my side as i got my new passport 2 weeks later- i kid you not!! dunno if the processing time for REVISED passports is just less than NEW passports or what.

funny how i didn''t blink an eye while changing my name last fall- new SS card, new DL. but i was seriously sad when i did change my passport. maybe ''cause of all the memories behind using it? anyway, know that they do send the old one back (mine came about a week after the new one). i was happy about that!

I applied for a new passport (lost mine) about a month and a half ago. I did the expidited service but not the overnight shipping. I got my passport back in...get this...TWO WEEKS! Now, that''s probably not the norm, but the US gov definitely came through on this one!

Wow, I just got my passport today! Whooo hoooo now I can go on my trip this spring!

It took 3 1/2 weeks approx. p.s. I did regular service.

Thanks for this info. I just sent mine off today (didn''t have the legal name change until Friday) so we''ll see how long it takes. We''re travelling in Dec., so I hope I get it back soon.
